RTS Jazz done (again) w/ G1 stickers

to me this is the definitive Jazz toy. i have waited patiently for him and now he is finally here complete w/ lacking detailing; par for the course. yes i know this has been done before, and there are plenty of minor repaints of this guy, but i have yet to see someone use G1 stickers on him, and let me say, they fit on him very nicely. after taking the pics and reviewing them, i noticed a few areas that i needed to touch up. that will come shortly.
i used a hot glue gun for the sort of loose knee joints and arm ball joints.

i also did a simple trick to give this guy a sort of auto-morph using a pack in TF rubber band (clear) which i will explain in one of the following pics. this also serves to hold down the top portion of his body and keep his shoulders snug. TRY IT!! it's great!

i am a firm believer that less is always more and did not want to go overboard w/ the detailing. there have been A LOT of repaints of this guy that look good from afar, but when you get up close, lets face it, the caked on paint looks sloppy. the last pic at the bottom is for comparisons only. anyway here he is. i hope you enjoy what i've done. That looks fantastic - are those the stock G1 stickers (or Repro eqivalent), and did you have to cut them to shape at all to make them fit? I'm surprised at just how well they work on a mould they weren't intended for. The rubber band's a brilliant idea, too.

all i did was blush silver acrylic paint w/ a small soft tipped brush (it had no size markings) and did the same to all the other silver areas. if you get silver on the tires all you have to do is go back over w/ black or simply wipe it off whilst wet. i just discovered brushing on acrylics to customize my TFs this late in the game. im still learning new tricks like fanning out the thick areas and making the surface smooth. hope that helps.

i think the only ones i had to clip were the hip stickers and of course put them in a different position than the G1 b/c of the surface area. i used the sticker set from my G1 commemorative jazz. i felt it serves a better purpose on this guy far better. i just wish the martini stickers were there for me to use. maybe when the reprolabels set comes out. the rubber band trick is money.

That rubber band trick is pretty neat, but I find the friction holding those panels down against his torso works fine as long as the wheel parts are hinged up as far as possible. However I have the complete opposite conundrum, I want to keep those bits AWAY from the torso so his shoulders don't look quite so stunted, and there's less risk of paint chipping.

what i do is actually hold the side pieces out so they dont rub against the painted torso, but it will yes. my main concern was the lack of a locking mechanism that holds down the upper body. i HATE floating parts on TFs; it is my bane. kinda like animated rodimus' waist moving around or movie ironhide's floating chest halves. i want a solid TF. this does help in that regard.

i also find that if you lift the shoulder wheels as high as possible and move the arms down as far as they can go, it not only looks better, but it does give pressure to the 2 hood pieces against the upper torso.

So it is - amazing how much difference the glasses make; I didn't recognise her. Personally, I think Cristina Scabbia makes a particularly hot Baroness (see attached).

I also find your avatar ridiculously attention-grabbing, too... :p

I was referring to the number 4 painted across those panels chipping, but w/e. My main point was just how Jazz's shoulders are low down on when the panels are folded all the way down against his torso. I'd like them to be right up against the tire panels at their highest angle, but there's not enough friction keeping it that way on it's own and the arms just slip back down. Seeing your trick with the rubber band gives me the idea to try that in reverse, holding the top panels up... but then I'd have to take it off to transform it.

to clarify, I want his shoulders to look like they do here.

ahhhh, i see what you mean. i did mistake what you were saying. the only problem i see w/ putting the actual arms up that high is the fact that you do not have the same range of motion you get if they were down b/c the upper arms will hit the wheel flap shoulder pad (?). of course you could dremel some off of the top. and then again you are having to hold down the damn hood from coming up while moving the arms. this should not be, which is why i used the rubber band.

i can tell you another trick to prevent the paint from chipping on the 4 decal on the hood. all you need to do is rub some FUTURE floor polish (Wal*Mart cleaning aisle) over the decals and let it sit for a few hours to fully cure. heat blown from a hair dryer works great to speed up the process. this will be my last step to seal everything. i will do this tomorrow night. this thing will be gleaming!
