Here's my Axe and I can't stop looking at it. It looks amazing and Rit dye worked PERFECT for it. Thanks for the great work I always knew Optimus was missing some sort of axe. Colored with Sunshine Orange Rit Dye powder =D I think i may add a layer of clear coat just to make it shiny looking and not dull On a different note, Whats the chance of getting a G1 accurate gun for Classics Optimus? As you can see I am just using the smoke stack gun but a G1 Gun would complete this awesome set!!
Not Process's work, but Calloway did this one. Classics Prime Ion Blaster mk2 by CALLOWAY75 on Shapeways Which is just the gun, but if you want smoke stacks and the gun, try this one: Classics Prime Smokestacks kit mk3 by CALLOWAY75 on Shapeways
I could do that, but it wouldn't be so high on my list, since the Gear of War 2 set meets my needs. And as Fawnheart mentioned, there are alternatives.
Quick update: I received a small batch of parts today. As it turns out, Shapeways' "white strong and flexible, polished" material is amazing. Unlike regular strong and flexible which has a very grainy texture, the polishing process turns the finish into something extremely close to the ABS plastic we all know and love. Examples: It's a little hard to make out, but that's sort of a good thing. The detail material will cost you more, and doesn't look significantly better. In fact, the polished strong and flexible is a purer white, and is smoother. It's not unlike the finish of the plastic that Fansproject uses. Close up: Here's a G2 Laser Prime-ish sword that will be available soon. I have been meaning to clean up my Shapeways page for a while with better descriptions, and so I don't have to constantly keep updating the first post in this thread. The current WIPs in order of % done: Upgrade set for PCC Heavytread: a mine plow, 3mm peg adapter and a hidden missile pod. IDW inspired hatch/mounting dock for Universe Hardhead. 5mm grip for Kotobukiya's minigun. Rumbler for Botcon 2011 SG Galvatron. Weapons! Transforming wind vane thingamajig for Classics Prime.
How does the polishing affect dimensions? Like 5mm pegs or ball joints And thanks for the heads up on the prime gun
The polishing appears to only remove something like 0.1mm maximum. Fortunately, strong and flexible is indeed strong and flexible, so my strategy is to size the, for example, ball 0.1 or 0.2mm bigger than it needs to be, so that it is held in place through prestressing. You could probably compensate for a little looseness with good 'ol nail polish. This is something the detail materials appear to be too rigid to do. The process really just seems to grind down the sandy texture on the strong and flexible material. Over time, you'd lose that texture anyway through general use and abrasion, so the polishing just gets you to the finished product that much faster.
Could you add some pistols to that Heavytread pack? I always felt he was slightly under-armed to be a guzzle stand in.
Does the heavytread kit include a part that acts as a joint so he can become brawl/the leg of fansproject bruticus? I seem to remember you saying that you were working on something like that.
Not in this set. At some point I'd like to do something like that, but it's tricky, because it involved a fairly robust joint and cutting parts off Heavytread.
