i bought a pair of shoes and had these plastic rods in them to keep the shape of the shoe i trimmed the end of a bit and i then basically unscrewed the hammer and separated the pieces( be careful if you do this to pull straight the seemed like the could be broken easily if not pulled straight up once unscrewed) and removed the old handle and placed the new one in its place the cool thing is i can just unscrew it again and put the old hammer handle back cause nothing was modified just replaced the handle
