Got the glue situation resolved now, I'm still looking for info regarding this 'hard epoxy' some people have mentioned though, I would very much like some kind of sculptable material to tidy this up before I begin painting.
Hey sorry about that. I never remember to subscribe to the threads I post on. I wasn't ignoring you. I sent you a big long PM, but for everyone else interested, I was referring to epoxy putties like Mighty Putty, Quikwood and Faststeel. Mighyt Putty you may recall from the late, great, slightly bombastic Billy Mays' commercials. It really not that great for fixing absoultely everything around your house, but if you need a cavity filled with solid plastic right now, it's perfect. It's hard to sculpt and sand though, so for detail work, I use Quikwood. It's a wood repair putty that sculpts and sands like a dream. It's not as tough, so as a finishing touch I paint on some brushable krazy glue and it drinks it all up and goes rock hard. For tough structure, I use Faststeel. It's for pipe repair and goes super hard and tough. It's strong enough that you can even make things like swords out of it. Mighty Putty is pretty common, especially if the store has a "as seen on TV" section. Quikwood and Faststeel are at the Home Depot. Of course, now I notice that you're in the UK, and all of these products might have totally different names there. If you want to spend a little more, the "professional" stuff is called Apoxiesculpt, and as far as I know, is only available mail order. Milliput is a traditional hobby putty and should be at any model-building/ hobby shop. It sometimes goes under "Green Stuff". I hope that helps!
I found Mighty Putty on eBay, £5.99 with freepost from a good seller. We'll soon see how that pans out
First attempt with Mighty Putty turned out pretty good, just rebuilding Meg's arm around the elbow joint to round things off.
I'm really not sure what to do with the Murder Claw thing now. I think it needs to be there in Tank Mode to hide the arms etc... ... but it just doesn't look right anywhere on the Bot Mode. I've tried it on both arms, personally I like it better on the left but it's still too hollow and doesn't really look like it belongs (to me). Would really appreciate some opinions/ideas as to what to do with it... as right now I'm thinking I might just have it pop off in Bot Mode and set it aside (like, say, Animated Grimlocks Sword or any Gestalt parts). Probably gonna beef up the left arm a bit too, but I wanna make sure it still folds away rather than hanging off the side. Again, I don't really care about movie accuracy, TFs has always been about cool toys for me!
Is there any way you could stick it on his back? Could it beef up his chest? Cool toys > screen accuracy. All day, every day.
Hey, there's an idea, perhaps if I removed the claw tips I could make it into some kind of protector armour will have a mess with it after work and knock up some test shots!
Well it's been a while since I updated this. Truth is, I'm now addicted to Mighty Putty and have gone crazy with it. Megatron now features: *Completely rebuilt left arm, using Junker Mixmaster. Includes posable claws. *Removed claw gimmick, replaced with static blade on gun. No more lego crap, no parts-forming. *Remodelled right arm/gun, removed redundant connector and made it badass. *Re-worked 'gun firing' sound effect to trigger less frequently as it was maddening. *Corrected mis-matched parts all over (almost seems like his left and right sides were made by different people entirely, as they didn't match up at all... not any more!) and improved many sculpted details with Mighty Putty. *Gun still fires May re-work the projectile as it looks a bit long... *The only removed feature is the automatic gun sound effect in tank mode... it can still be operating by pressing a (new) button on his back. He's currently being painted, I shall update with a new thread when it's done as he's definately in heavy/scratch territory now ps. I managed to find that 'Future' floor polish for clear coating here in England, it's now called 'Pledge Multi-Surface Wax (Klear Formula)'... wordy but wonderful! I remember someone on the forums re-sculpted Megs' face to be wider and more accurate. Anyone remember who it was? I can't find the thread for the life of me
