Nightbeat is one of my favorite marvel comic charaters, and when I found out that he had a 'universe' toy I was delighted and planned to get him once I had a chance. Looking up some new information about him, I found out that another repainted Hot Shot toy that I had (Getaway) had been a team-mate of his in DW comics. That lead to me taking a headless Armada Hot Shot and giving him a TFA Blurr head and new paint job to make him into Siren. Then I decided well, why not take another damaged Hot shot toy (Blue Cybertron mold with a broken waist and hips) and turn him into Joyride with a swivel waist? Then I looked up which characters had worked with Nightbeat from marvel and DW and on a whim looked up the number of different Hot Shot molds and found out that I had enough variations to make the WHOLE team out of Hot Shot molds... Well, I owned all of them except a second red legends Hot Shot and Nightbeat! So with everyone except Playback, Lug and Nightbeat finished, I figured I might as well show my insanity. I'll be showing off the team in groups of two, for the most part the 'master pairs. =========================== EDIT/UPDATE: Simplygriff had said that the repaint/mold didn't really work for Joyride in his opinion and while I didn't want to switch molds (keeping with the whole theme/point of this set that I'd done it for^^) I did paint the helm and some fairly large portions of the shins white to hopefully envoke the character a bit more. Joyride is made from a cybertron Hot Shot who'd suffered from a severed waist and broken hip joint. I used a movie Brawl to give him a swivel waist which gave him very different looking shoulders than Getaway, as well as letting his back become his chestplate. He was further modified by having the spoiler/backpack removed from the backpack, the 'cyber key' gimmic removed, then he had it attached to his lower legs and split in half. As with Getaway his 'hot shot' head was removed and replaced with a Sunstreaker's head (sans helmfins). All of his dark blue plastic had a coat of translucent purple paint put over it to give it a slightly different look from the original toy. I also painted his forearm guns where I left them unpainte on Getaway, again, to further the gap between the two toys in appearance. He still transforms well, although there are some small gaps. Hotwire is a cybertron legends hot shot with panel-lining and no further work, his spoiler is kept down to help give him a different silhouette than Lube. Joyride was a favorite of mine as a kid and this just doesn't remind me of him at all. Needs more teal, pink, white and blue windows. -G |

I am sorry that you dislike the final product. If you were to make a Joyride for the classics line, may I so inquire as to which mold you would have used as a basis? I will consider adding white to his lower legs, forearms an helm though! ![]() Last edited by Alteron_Sheng; 05-21-2010 at 06:53 PM.. Reason: spell-checking |

I think the alt mode as is still says "Hot Shot" a bit more. I think following your own advice with adding some white can help. I can certainly see how you got your inspiration for this concept though I don't think griff is saying he doesn't "like" your project. I'm reading that he's just not feeling the character through your work thus far. Since Joyride is one of his favorite characters from his childhood, I think his advice communicates a lot. ![]() |

Apologies, I had intended no offense in my response... I have a slightly odd sentence syntax, and perhaps it came across differently that I had meant. I will see how adding white will work on the toy, if nothing else it will add some more contrast and give him some colors to better tie into the rest of the unit!^v^ (as for his alt-mode, well, I almost never transform my toys so the alt-mode is rarely as important to me as the battle-mode ^_^; ) Last edited by Alteron_Sheng; 05-21-2010 at 11:56 PM.. I've had Joyride since I was a kid so I can see how that mold would make a good redeco. I like it a lot, but also I like that you put in that swivel waist. Because.....dun dun dun.... It means you can turn the waist around, and make the back sides of the feet the front, because then that spoiler that's already there would make it a little more accurate. No paint required. Plus, you got the head totally right. So keep it up! ![]() NC@TFW (THE NORTH CAROLINA TFW SOCIAL GROUP) NC 2012 Meeting Thread |
