Painted this guy up to match my car. Was just going to be a simple repaint, but I ended up adding gundam hands, removing all the siren stuff from the hood, filling the gaps, and using magnets for his head. Camo ultra flat black fusion was the primer, followed by silver enamel drybrushing, and red and silver highlights. Used the touch up paint for my car for the alt mode, plus some gloss black for the windows and stripes, and alclad chrome for the wheels. Three coats of future, which I sanded with 1200 grit paper, polished, and waxed. Bot mode has a couple coats of testors model master flat acrylic. I'm including a picture of the original toy in case you haven't seen it before. Anyway, let me know what you guys think!
This mod is awesome. Looks like a different figure all over. Maybe i´ll make the same changes on mine. Love the way it looks with the flat roof.
Very nice. My only crit would be the choice of using flat black as the actual basecoat. Even with tons of sanding and clear coat, it still looks flat and textured, which isn't what I expect on an SUV with what looks like blinged out rims.
Well, the alt mode had gloss black as a base. I think the textured appearance comes from the metallic flakes in the paint. And Zildjian, I still can't figure out how you guys get such black backgrounds. It's mind boggling!
Awesome paint job. Does the head store anywhere in particular when he's in vehicle mode? Technically it's a parts-former, which is ok, but have ya thought about making him a Headmaster? Just an idea - awesome work regardless. ~Z
Oh, I use my fair share of photoshop! I think my lighting is where I'm off. I've got two lights on each side of the light tent, but I think I need one either in front or from the top. I'm about to throw this damn camera out the window.
You mentioned Gundam hands? What for, are they more articulate than regular TF hands? I'm asking because I'm unfamiliar with them and would be nice to add more articulated hands to my figures. Is this Alternator size by the way?
I think maybe it would have been better to leave the clear red windows as they were, or maybe with a smoked black clear paint. Windows painted with solid colours never sat quite right with me.
This is a deluxe sized figure. I used a set of 1/100 gundam hands (non-articulated) because red alert had a barrel for one hand, and the other was a pretty boring fist. These are fists, but just look a lot nicer.
Based on the quote above it sounds like he used the black version of the mold that was called Cannonball I believe, which came with purple windows Great work on this though man. I think the biggest drawback for the original figure was the exposed head in truck mode, which a lot of the Trilogy figures suffered from. I'm wondering, since you got the roof so smooth, did you consider smoothing out the back part of the roof where the cyberkey goes in?
Nah, it was the Red Alert version, with the red windows. I just covered everything with gloss black Fusion and went from there. As for the key, I kinda like being able to unleash those shoulder cannons he has.
