Finished this a few weeks ago but I just finally put the last touches on it in the form dry rub transfers. Inspired by Tsangkin's similar custom and FrogDNA's awe inspiring painting technique. This is the Classics Hardhead/Onslaught mold with the electronics from TFTM Leader Brawl. A work in progress video showcasing this feature is at the bottom. And here is the WIP Thread : HardHead (WIP) I am going to start differently this time and start with the Alt mode pics first. ALT Mode ======= After wiring and getting everything together I base coated and airbrushed the Military green color "Medium Green" and drybrushed the silver. I used as much reference from the IDW spotlight as I could and I loved the copper rims the cover had. I used an military font stencil dry rubs to give it the final touch. The 87 is for the year the original toy was released. Robot ==== The head is a casted Alternators Hound and the visor is styrene and the painting was heavily inspired by FrogDNA with the animation reflection. I did this so that the visor wouldn't be just a bland single colored piece. This is my favorite part of the robot mode is the chain/mini gun that also came from the Leader Brawl figure. The only thing that could top it off is the bullet belt. Here is the WIP video showcasing the feature : HardHead Cannon Fire Video As always C&C but mostly enjoy.
This is awesome. I love the paint work....not too shiny you know? And Hounds head with the visor suits him just fine. Fantastic work Bonus points for making the cannon sound work too.
This looks great. I would have loved to see some more detail in bot mode, But I understand why you didn't as it would have taken that clean/simple Military look away from Alt mode.
RodimusDawg this is simply amazing! these Hardhead customs are really making me a huge fan of this trigger happy Autobot. i pretty much just love everything you to this guy. I really like the cell shaded style reflections on the visor, definitely a great idea. Damn, i really want him. Could you just sent him to me, I'm kind of low on cash now. THANKS!
Thanks Dsn. Yeah I was going to go completely flat but I wanted I bit of a shine to get the contours to pop a bit more. And the wiring for the cannon noise was the hardest and longest time consuming wise thing I have done in customizing yet. I think it took about 5-7 hours of trail and error of test fitting and running the wires and soldering, removing solder, re-soldering. But mostly treating burns. I thought the onslaught was a terrible mold before I got my hands on a HardHead. Now I am regretting not picking on up at the store and gobs of time I saw it. Exactly. I too feel it is simple in paint scheme. I was going to add some other colors here and there but it would have been on the edge of a technicolor tank of death. And almost laughable more than intimidating. Thanks Mugen. I was racking my brain and thinking it was impossible to do anything beside just paint it a single solid color. Thanks to FrogDNA's animation painting technique/style I was saved from having to delay this even more. And sorry I believe this one is possibly staying in the collection not quite sure yet though. Thanks. And Tsangkin hit it dead on using the same I almost tried hunting down a Alternator Swindle to try and combine the two being that swindle already has a visor but I alas had no luck. : (
That has got to be one of the coolest customs I have ever seen.Very clean, and I love all the guns on him.I've been wanting to try some customs and seeing this makes me want to try it even more.
It's staying in your collection until pictures are taken with him and my custom Autobot Headmaster together. - Alty
