Hi All! I think this is the first of my customs I've posted here... If I'm wrong - OOPS! ^^; So, I got Bludgeon while on holiday in Hong Kong, and I thought what would be nice to do is to paint him up and take an opportunity to buy and use some Tamiya weathering kits... I primed him with Tamiya White Primer, then used a Tamiya Green Spray Can (I think it's Olive Drab - but I can't be sure...). Then a coat of Mr. Super Clear UV Cut Flat to make the tank look nice and flat - (yeah - the green may not be official type 90 tank colours - but I was kind of just using whatever can of paint I already had at home ^^; The clear coat then is to make it flat like a tank's coat of paint would be) Then I used some of Tamiya's weathering kits (Tamiya Weathering Master A & B) to detail it up... And we have: (note these three photos were taken using my iPhone camera... on my office table :b) And here are a couple of photos of his tank mode with my Sony camera (note this wasn't actually the final tank photos... haven't taken any of those) (the rear end detail is actually finally painted now - but I haven't a photo of it handy... I'm kind of copy/pasting some of this post from the Ozformers board ) And now - some pics of minor mods I've made! My mate Kyle said that he reckoned that the head's neck articulation was lacking in that review thread. Totally agree. Took me a short little while with my dremel where I shaved off the post that was used for the neck, then I fit in a double-ball-joint! I just felt that adding a double joint would really add to the articulation... I didn;'t think a single ball joint would be sufficient in adding the right kind of articulation to the neck .. So, here's how it looks! And here's what it looks like with the head back on: (Yep - I primed the head, and did something to his eyes :b) And now some exhibition pics of him... and yes this is now my Henkei Bludgeon (hence the chrome! ): And some shots of how the neck works: Just to note: I've used a fair amount of gunmetal all around- helps with the covering up of the light grey plastic, for the chest, I used the copper chrome (mirror finish - the same Hasegawa stuff), and silver paint for the streaks on the 'chest eyes', I used gold and copper mirror finish for the front flap/crotch guard thing, and used clear red for the strip of red there - I mixed my own blend of paint for his helmet and forearms (they're a shade of shiney brown - I primed it with brown paint, then painted it with this shiney brown paint ... and the paint is a mix of copper, clear yellow, clear orange and clear paint) lots of copper paint was used to add a lot of detail, as did gun metal. I then used some of the weathering kit to add a bit more detail. As aforementioned I also painted the little weapons that were on the alt mode's end that I didn't earlier ... wonder if you can make it out... Please let me know what ya'll think
Okay, now that's just beautiful! Very well done! The balljointed neck really adds to the figure as well. Very, very nice indeed.
i didn't like the original Hasbro bludgeon paintjob much, but that is definitely the right colourway for him. Nice job.
It does look awesome, but the tank mode paint is a little lacking. Once you go for the realistic weathering, skipping over things like the leather skirts on the front of his treads, or the equipment attached to the back of the tank just stands out that much more.
Thanks man Much appreciated! ... I don't think I'm selling him cause I...haven't done that kind of thing before... I've done a few small commissions, but not actually sold one like that Thanks fateastray! Thanks Ra88! I'm just glad that the doubleballjoint ended up working so well Not much work (other than just sitting there grinding away the post with the dremel) was needed either! Totally agree chugway! The sculpt has so much promise but the original paint apps just couldn't properly show it off! The unfortunate use of HasGrey here and there hurt it too.. That said, I'm glad I settled on this paintjob - the image of him without the head, then with the white-primed head was kind of when I was 'uhm-ing and ah-ing' trying to figure out what should be his final colourscheme! Thanks Deonasis Many thanks Insecticons - It took a little while trying to figure out where it ought to go so that I don't overdo it, and don't UNDER do it as well - so your feedback is much appreciated Thanks man - I too find that balljointed heads just give so much additional personality to a figure - Kind of like how ROTF's Lockdown's multi-balljointed head adds so much to him! Thanks a lot Solrac! Thank you! It's actually foil-sheets I got off HLJ that was precisely cut and pasted... (more info below) Lol- thanks man Sso02v! Thanks so much for that feedback - I really appreciate constructive crits like this! I don't really know much about tanks - so for starters I didn't even know about the leather skirts... I'll have to go look at some type90 tank images and add to the current paint scheme - then update here again The equipment at the back of the tank is now painted ... I just don't have any photos of it (I should be able to take some photos tonight when I'm home) Thanks bellyboy! That's the thing - it's not paint! It's this stuff from hlj Thanks again for all the feedback guys I'll update again with some tankmode pics tonight Cheers!
That looks tremendous! I've wondered about using foil, I think I'm going to give it a shot. Is it self adhesive or do you need to use a glue? If so what kind?
Aww! Kinda jealous yours hit first. Mine is very similar (more damage, and no chrome), and will be up in a week or so. I am kinda glad you went shiny and minty with yours, since I'm going "rusty and beat all to hell" with mine. This is gorgeous work; hope to see more from you.
