I am about to start working on a new heavy custom TF so I figured I would post a mod I had done previously to introduce myself to the forum before I post much more. I usually do vinyl customs but I am wanting to work more on robot stuff lately. Anyhow, here is the project. I had really liked the sculpt of the Hulk TF's body, but i hated the Frankenstein looking head. So I looked for some solutions. I started looking at biglots combiners for heads that might look good. Here is a stock photo of the way the toy started. Then here is the first head I tried. This was from a construction combiner, but I was not too keen on this head for him. After some searching I found a train combiner that had a head I liked. I had to dremel out the hole in his neck for the ball joint to fit, but that was quick and simple. I then painted the head to have a purple to match the parts on the body then I gave the face a new silver paint job. Now I present ULTRA NEMESIS! The head reminds me sort of Ultra Magnus, and I thought it would be nice to give him a decepticon counter part, just like Prime has had. I know he does not transform in a similar vehicle, but his relation is more about power and fighting ability than looks. Besides, I have never been a fan of straight repaints of other figures to make an evil version. I did this custom back in 2008. Something funny I found last month was there is now a knockoff of this figure, with a head that looks very much like the one I now have on mine. I sort of wonder if maybe the same factory that makes the biglots combiner also makes this Hulk KO and maybe saw my pics online. Then again maybe its just a random event. Error - 404 Not Found - Action Figure Checklist Another custom. I did not think I needed to make another thread for this. It was a quick touch up for Classic Ironhide. Before Blue (Robotic John Kerry) face. After. Silver (Grumpy old robot) face.
That head really does make a difference. I agree it does look alot Magnus. That is the first thing I thought when I seen the head.
Ultra Nemesis looks freakin' sweet man! Great job making it fit with classics style instead of the , IMO, inferior Marvel line
Thanks guys. I agree, I do not care for the crossover lines, but this one had some hidden potential and it did not take much to bring it out. I am gearing up to start on my first major overhaul of an Animated figure. As soon as I finish this drawing project, I will start on it.
Weird, I didn't think I would like that head on that figure in your WIP pics, then I see it painted and it ROCKS. Great work, and very original. You gotta arm him though, bro.
Robotic John Kerry FTW! That Hulk does look much better, by the way. Maybe because I really don't care for the Crossovers as they are.
The KO was unlabeled but it was the same old Big Lots special. The mold is based off of a Japanese micromaster combiner type figure, but it got a different head for the KO. Thanks guys. I actually have him holding Animated Grimlocks sword on my shelf. It seems fitting. If the cannon did not make up the feet, I would have tried to make that a shoulder cannon or something. Since he has these massive destructive hands, I felt a waste to give him a gun unless it was something awesome. Sorry for the crappy phone pic.
You know, this Hulk body might be good for a conversion of the new video game Optimus Prime. Great custom!
If I had not recently saw a prototype, I would have likely made one. The hulks seem to be getting rare though, I have not seen one at the store in a while. I keep seeing the spidey and iron man ones, and I think those need a lot more work to be a decent figure. I think this sculpt would also lend itself very well to a non-beastwar Rhinox. The only problem with this toy is that it is really short. He seems so huge, then you put him next to about any classic, and you see how short he really is. I think that would play well in writing for the character though. He could have the Decepticon status of Ultra Magnus, but he with a Napoleon complex.
Not too keen on the sword. Seems meaningless that the character would use one when he's got those clubs for arms.
Blast from the past. I took my first attempt at stop motion with this figure. Here is the video. I don't see an option on embedding video, so here is a link: Transformers Ultra Nemesis Custom (Stop Motion Animation) - YouTube I also fixed the image link in the first post since image shack dropped all the images.
