a few days ago as i was cleaning out my display cabinets,i found this old project(among other unfinished ones)and decided to revisit it again.he's had a set of wings added to him ala g1 style(or "airwolf" style if you're old enough to remember the show)he still retains both the helicopter and bot modes but now also has a cybertronian armored "skiff/hovercraft" mode.the new cockpit piece attaches via strong magnets and the main donor piece of it was salvaged from some kind of "zoids" sea monster thing.this same piece mounts to him in copter mode to simulate a more g1-ish theme, almost like an extra booster that mounts above his tail fin right behind the main rotor.this same piece can also magnetically attach to the bfgg(big friggin green cannon) to become his rifle in bot mode.(it was salvaged from energon leader megatron's shoulder) the bfgg mounts to his armored skiff/hovercraft mode via magnets also.it mounts to his left wing via magnets too.more yellow paint has been added to the front of the copter(suggested by fellow members awhile ago)and other areas.he's also been panel lined with a gundam marker almost everywhere.
That's actually pretty decent, reminds me of "Switchblade" from MASK which as a kid I thought was kind of redundant, but which today I really kind of like. If you added some wheels to the sides of the chopper (which could even be played off as landing gear in heli' mode) you might even be able to sell it as a "Cybertronian Car" as per the original. I'm just glad to see a Springer with three modes! D/L
Dude, is it any wonder why I love you? Also, what the hell is a "gundam marker"? I've just been using sharpies to panel line.
A pen used to panel line Gundams. Or panel line anything else for that matter. Use them. Sharpies suck. I'm not feeling the "third" mode too much, but I do love the paintjob done on this.
Aces, that panel lining really makes it pop. I got to get you to bring me some more of those pens when you come to TFCon. I've had ZERO luck finding them here.
"Gundam Markers" are typically the paint markers. I forget if the name is official, but I usually call the panel-lining ones "Gundam Pens." We don't have Hobby Lobbys up here, so I don't know if they would carry them. There isn't any chance that there would be any specialty shops that import Gundams and such near you, would there? Naturally, that'd be the best place to look.
I too don't quite feel the third mode, but at least it looks alien, with a bit of a M.A.S.K. vehicle vibe to it.
Ok, 3 things.... 1. Airwolf ROCKS! 2. So does your springer. I wish I had the green one, but I do have evac (Ithink that was the name of the yellow version) 3. NPK & Orio- Check ut this website for gundam markers: Gundam Store and More - Huge Selection of Gundam Models, Zoids, Tamagotchi, Living Dead Dolls, and More! Low Prices & Speedy Shipping! (sorry, I can't post it as a link, I'm on my ps3) They have a whole lot of other cool stuff too. *edit .... Ok I guess I CAN post a link...
Not feeling the third mode to be honest. It doesn't really look like anything and I'm trying to convince myself through the wonderful power of imagination, but it's just not working. Great job on the paint and the chopper mode looks better than the original.
yeah, i likewise just don't see anything other then a mess of helicopter parts, but DAMN...that panel lining is freaking brilliant...i think i need to go get a few of those markers too and start panel lining...that makes this toy pop SO much more then i would've expected...
