So, yeah, I took the plunge. At first I just used some of that Tamiya Weathering Master powder-paint to make him look more metallic. But having watched the movie on DVD again, I really wanted a full-metal Ravage. So I took some alcohol to him and cleaned him all off for paint-prep, and got started. Still working on it--considering he'll pretty much be one-tone with highlights, I didn't have to completely disassemble him for the repaint. Using Krylon Hammered Steel spray, and I'll probably go over him a with some of that Tamiya smoke spray to bring the color down a bit. I should have him done by the weekend. EDIT: Done! Got some shots uploaded. I added little bits of gold detail on cable/wire/pipe/hydraulic sections, though not a whole lot. The spikes were fun to do. I painted them first in acrylic gunmetal so the paints wouldn't be sticky, then did some light spray coats with the Hammered Steel. I also painted the bases by hand so it'd all match with the rest of the body. The final look really came out nice. We must be on some kind of shared wavelength channel, because I recently bought this mold as well to make a custom. If not for our shared interests, I'd not say that of course. I can't wait to see what this ends up looking like, bud
I'm working on something with Ravage too, though it won't be Ravage when I'm done. One question though... When you sprayed the legs without taking the pins out, does it make it harder to move them? I have everything but the legs base coated, and I can't get the darn leg pins out to save my life, so I was thinking of doing the same thing you did and just leave them together. Just kinda concerned that they wont bend right. *note- I haven't had my coffee yet, so I appologise if this makes no sense.
S7--I've had mine for a while now, and I just kept going back and forth on it until now. The black/gray G1-homage does look good, but I really want my steel-cat. Highcon--Everything moves fine after painting. Thing is, I'm not using any base coat, and the paint I AM using is a spray (Krylon). But everything (so far) moves just fine. I did tape off internal parts/teeth and left gear boxes out. Once I assemble him I'll find out exactly how well this has worked. But for the legs, everything moves just fine. I even planned my spray painting around the front legs and the "gear" effect by not spraying that open side at all until it was time to spray the gear. Then I sprayed lightly, let it dry, rotated, sprayed again. That side of the legs got a decent coat without getting too thick, and I was able to spray the mech-alive gear evenly. And it spins cleanly. If you plan on doing it by hand with base coat, I don't know how it'll turn out. I'm curious in hearing your findings when you're done.
