my first posting here. And my first custom job too (that i took seriously) Seen quite a number of mods on Optimus Prime here. I can't help but to post mine anyway. Would love to receive critiques and feedbacks. Info on my costums: for most of the part i used Tamiya's acrylic paints. With Gun Metal color for the base and Flat Aluminum for highlights and scratches. Dry-brush technique was used to give that 'weathered' look (just got to learn this from youtube). For the eyes i used Chrome Silver overcoated with Clear Blue - love the effect! really gives that glow in his eyes. And completely took out the swords - find it rather annoying and restricting. The rigid hands are also removed and replaced with fully articulated hands cannibalized from some unfortunate Gundam robot. Didn't do any mod on gun. i simply took the gun from the same unfortunate Gundam robot - poor thing.
Wow taking this seriously is an understatement, the only thing you didnnt do was make the alt mode flames accurate, and I love the fact that you made the windsheild clear blue. A lot of people go for a flat black, and I myself am using the tamiya smoke to tint the wondows on mne. But your attention to dtail is incredible, as is your photography.
looks good duDE! nice touch on the windows w/ the blue tint.. actually goes great! needs a gun tho! lol im a big gun buff so get workin on one! =P
Great first bash man! To be honest you did such a great job with the robot bits that it made me wish you touched up some of the plain blue/red truck parts a bit more. Nice photoshop work BTW.
Corvus - thanks. the hands and the gun are cannibalized from Bandai's Zaku MG II. OMEGAPRIME1983 - thanks for your comments. such an encouraging words. i found doing the flames was too challenging for me. Be looking forward to see your finished prime. wylungz - thanks dude. big gun huh? you mean the size of the current barrel is not enough? haha... actually i do have plan to replicate the gun like yours (nice work there)... sometime.. in near future. yourreflection - thanks man. yeah, i was thinking about that too. But the prime was too anxious to go for photoshoot and strike some poses in his robot mode
Welcome to Radicons! This looks awesome for an experienced painter, let alone for someone new to the hobby. The drybrushing is very cleanly done and I love the weathering on the red and blue panels on bot mode. I'd suggest painting in some of the smaller details, though. You missed the chrome lining on his doors, windows, his windshield wipers, and the bottom of the blue part of the cab. You might wanna go all the way and paint in the pinstriping on his flames as well!
ah! mampy my man. the one that introduced me to tfw2005 and tought me how to dismantle the arms and remove the blades... i thought you would never notice on the missing chrome trimmings. truly a movie accuracy junkie you are. lol. yeah. i should have had more patience and spend a little more time on the details. thanks man
That is just kick-ass. The scene shot just totally sells it! Your details are perfect--he practically jumped off the screen. I never get tired of seeing ROTF Prime customs. It really is a great toy.
Thanks janeails22x. glad to have the pic as your wallpaper. hope the resolution is good. Thanks Pun-3x. yeah agree. it is truly a magnificent toy. quite an engineering marvel to say the least. The great details hasbro has put in deserve an extensive repaint. wish there will be more TFs as detailed as this prime thanks again mampy. yeah, my hands are itchy for some more customs. but my ideas are a bit lacking at the moment
This is a great way to start out here! Everything on the custom looks really nice! I'd recommend just watching your cropping on some of your photos there. The "wallpaper" photo just makes this piece shine. Nice work
lol yo mampy introduced me (even tho he doesn't know it) to tfw2005 also lol.. dudes awesome. his work inspired me into transformer customs
