Wow, that really is pretty awesome, especially for the scale! I like the way he evokes G1 Shockwave, while still being his own design. Nicely done. zmog
I wanted to go for a War Within feel, while keeping to some G1 aspects. The cannon barrel was originally going to be on hinges on each arm, like the WWI Shockwave concept sketch, but it made it look too Hulk-ish. Then I went for rails that the separate piece fits on to (on the outside of the forearms), and it worked fine. The barrel actually fits snugly between the track supports in 'bot mode, so it holds well. The laboratory is next, then a more G1 gun alt mode version.
