Hey everyone. This is not the beginning of a Terrorcons project, just a try at doing Blot as well as I can. I'm a big fan of the Starscream protoform from the 07 movie and I wanted to try and use his big nose to recreate Blot for me. For now all I've done are my mods and the base coat. Among the mods I've removed a couple excess parts which onlt served as kibble, like the landing gear that hung out of his ass. Shortened his long tail in robot mode and removed a protrusion that allows it to sit flush now with his back. The original Blot could mount a gun on his back and now he has the same trick which will hold his pistol in beast mode. When I had removed the tail section I felt a bit bad about waisting some nicely detailed molding, so it got cut up more to make a halberd for Blot. This doesn't suit him really, but I had a chance to make a big blade and who am I to fight it, it stands at about twice Blot's hieght. I have to wait a few days now to start applying more paint and I'm starting to get impatient, but a few more days won't hurt me. Anyway, thanks for looking.
Ack! That's SMART! Great idea! NOW we finally know what Blot transforms into... a Gannman from Gurren Lagaan! zmog
I think the mold and Blots character are a ropey match at best, but this is a small exercise in painting and it seemed a decent excuse to do some. I'm hoping to not mess up dry brushing the the underbits with silver over black, though I'm thinking I might use grey instead to give a more cartoony look. Opinions from those that know?
I'm gonna apologise for the picture quality as I'm using my phone, when it comes to gallery time I'll do my best to score a better camera. Painting has gone really well I'm surprised and relieved to report. I still have loads of bits to do, but I'm liking the look of it so far. Also here's pictures of the blade with Deluxe animated Prime to show what we're talking about sizewise.
Here we have a look at the painted chest/nose and what I'm thinking is the lower jaw of the guy. I was starting to be a bit dissapointed with this guys lack of lumbering arms and I think I've a solution. With a neo shifter joint on the shoulder I can filp arms on the side of the monster mode and behind him in robot mode. There's a couple of pictures below that show how he'll look, its a trip to the shop tomorrow to find a set of brute arms. Now he's starting to look like Blot in my mind.
Found myself a set of monster arms for this fella. Went to theshopand got myself Bioniclejoints over NeoShifters. Going through my stuff I found a 1/100 hundred gundam kit. One of this guys features is that he has a set of ultra trim thrusters on his back, these will sit behind Blot as wings in robot mode. In monster mode I believe they'll make a nice set of blades as opposed to the strong arms I had in mind. Also in the kit were a set of nice claws that are base coated now, but need sanding and painting again, I wanna try add them to the feet of my monster for extra oomf. I feel alot of ideas for this guy I'm getting are a bit beyond my reach mod wise. Should it bot work out I'm aiming to have him displayable without them. Here's a picture of the wings, they should have a decent range of motion now that they'll be ball jointed. This is quite a bit of fun as it turns out and I need to get back to my sword.
So work carried on this evening and it went into the preparation of the new joints going onto his shoulders. Which meant fun with power tools. So this is the first time I've done this, so forgive me for going on about it. Below are pictures explaining how I made a new joint for my custom, should it be of use to anyone. I got a hold of 2 bionicle parts and some gundam joints. This joint will connect Blot to his wings/blades. I cut the lego parts along the lines in the pictures below. Also sanded down the ball to avoid paint rub, it flaps loose now, but thats should stiffen with paint. And the part sticking out from the ball needed to be trimmed, so it would fit snuggly into the wing hinge. Soon as thats done just push it all together. My own cutting was pretty rough, but I've fixed that with putty and should look ok. I've painted the wings purple and are due a second coat, as are the blades for his feet. Again, sorry for going on, but I'm at the end of my mid term and I really wanted to get a custom done. I want to wrap up this guy in the next couple of days and sort out his accessories.
Assembled him today, as soon as the wings (today or tomorrow) are on I'll start finishing the weapons. Getting an odd Thundercracker feel off him, but I think that will be sorted once I sort the last few bits on him.
Thanks By 'fusion' do you mean Abominus? I'm not sure about that, as I don't really have ideas for the rest of the team. This idea spun out from a thread in the discussion forum about what would make a good Blot, I suggested this mold and couldn't stop thinking about how to do it. Then I found out NP was holding a custom painting competition on his youtube channel and it was a fine excuse to do the guy. This is my first tf custom to actually resemble the closing stages, so I'm kinda fumbling through my progress lol.
