Dark Destroyer Megatron * update 19 November 2009 : Final version photos. I got rid of the side ridges on the Wreckage head for the real buckethead shape. The epoxy I got worked ; thanx to you guys again for your suggestions on how to solve the problem. He's 'frustrated' no longer The extra gun is G1 Hardhead's barrel. He's also got 1 layer of semi-matte varnish. Together with the main source of inspiration : Gobot "Destroyer" in robotmode. Together with the main source of inspiration : Gobot "Destroyer" in tankmode. Old WIP part of this post Here's my Dark Destroyer Megatron. My first TF custom repaint. He's pretty much a ROTF voyager Megatron, turned into a tribute to my fav Gobot Destroyer. Mission goals : - Tribute to Destroyer, the Renegade Gobot - Sea green be gone ! Instead, a military Olive Drab + German panzer decals. - a tribute to "I'll crush you with my bare hands !" Less fangs, more actual hands. The left hand is made from the missile ; it is now the Panzer Faust. It can still shoot like a missile, to penetrate Autobot armour and rip its spark out. - A new head ; while I like Megatron's detailed headmold, imo, it is a bit too big for this oversized "Deluxe" Megatron. Wreckage's headsculpt reminds me more of the classic bucket helmet style of G1 Megs. Mission PROBLEM : I sliced off the neck balljoint... to glue on Wreckage's neck balljoint... but with the glue I have it wouldn't hold.... so... unless I don't get the right glue.... this custom will still be an epic fail Help anyone !? The Panzer Faust missile fist.
You could always glue a magnet on to the neck and head and go that route...or hollow out a "cradle" with your dremel and create a spot for a new ball joint set up to sit..maybe a Gundam neck joint would work.
Thanks ! I'll look into any solution... but since, I'm only a beginner when it comes to this stuff (don't even have a dremel atm ) ...I'll have to see how it goes. Will try to find super plastic glue tomorrow.... Anyway...IF i manage to solve this problemm, I'll repaint the Wreckage head... to fit this Megatron...
Well, imho..... the Germans do have the coolest looking logo's, regardless of the history. Also ,the current Wehrmacht uses a cross logo which is still recognizable. In any case ; i intend this Megatron's styling as harmless as military miniature models. No offense to anyone intended The original Destroyer Gobot has similar logo's:
We don't have a Wehrmacht yet, we have Bundeswehr. But ok, when you mean we have the coolest logos: thank you
I would recommend Zap-A-Gap for the glue. It's great on plastic, but to make the seam strong enough, what you can do to is drill a tiny hole up into the head and into the ball's stalk and join them with a stiff metal wire. That combined with the glue will be much stronger than glue alone. If the ball joint is too stiff and keeps ripping the seam, you can lightly (and very carefully) sand the ball so that it's a little looser and easier on your seam. Good luck on this. It is looking very cool!
This is awsome. Due to his classic style likeness have you seen what Megs would look like with the foot type that typically goes with that style?
^ Well, the ridges on Classics/Henkei Megatron's shin legs kinda resemble the treads of this rotf Megatron. So, yeah, with the hands & the Wreckage heads...It's a bit of a movie/classics crossover perhaps... btw.. I think I'll order some epoxy. Never used it before, but I guess this situation calls for it. Then, when that's solved, he won't be 'frustrated' any longer heheh.
Yep, you've made me like this mold as well! (Damn, now I've got to go and buy it...) AND we've got Radicons discussing military history to boot! Who says transformers aren't educational? Oh, and how about some shots of ol' megs transformed? Cheers!!
Ok, I'll try to get some nice shots tomorrow, so stay tuned (it's 1:24 am here atm). He isn't sealed yet, so I'll have to be careful with the decals while transforming.
i recommend plastic weld. you can buy it at any hardware store, and its great. after 5 min it becomes plastic and is super strong, almost like what ever mod you did was made that way.
I really dislike Movie Megatron... STRONGLY. But you've actually given me a reason to go out and buy this now. With your modifications, it looks pretty damn sweet! Wow! zmog
Another trick when glue doesn't work, similar to what Tom Servo suggested, would be to use a small screw. Drill a small hole into the ball joint stem and into the spot left on the fig. Then, screw a small screw into the ball joint stem about half way or so. Then, use a dremel or wire cutters and cut the head off of the screw. You should have basically a ball joint on a screw now. Hopefully, you can just screw that into the hole you drilled into the figure. If you need to use a pair of pliers to grip the ball joint, wrap it in a paper towel or fabric to prevent damage from the plier threads. If you want it more secure, put some glue/epoxy on there too. Some tips would be the drill needs to be a little smaller than the screw's thread size. You could also do it the other way - screw the screw into the base/fig and then 'screw' the ball joint on to it. And I would suggest working on some spare/junk parts before doing on the fig, just so you get the hang of it.
Thanks for the comments & suggestions everyone ! I ordered epoxy online. It should be on the way The stem of the original ball joint seems a bit to short to drill insert any metal reinforcement, so I guess I'll just epoxy-glue a new balljoint to it. For anyone interested. Here's how I did the mod : Just find some reasonable fists, then insert the missile into the launcher and mark it where the fist will have to go ; then slice it at the marking and glue on the fist. Then, remove all the automorph fangs from the right arm, including the gear. Slice off half the nozzle like I did, but you could also remove it completely ; either way should free up a clean flat surface to glue on the right fist. Furthermore, I found my G1 Hardhead who is in junker state, thus I will use his barrel to serve as Dark Destroyer Megatron's arm cannon. Of course, it will be repainted too. Oh btw... sorry about no-show of altmode pics yet, but fall season has brought some nasty weather here and it's no good to take some nice outside shots. But don't worry, I will make and post altmode pics eventually.
they have the uber glue @ Michael's, if you have one in your area. If not, a lot of auto parts stores carry plastics glue.
