Wow..been a while since I posted anything! Mostly been doing commisions of repeated projects, but finally, something new...and I actually get to keep it! Man, I think out of everything I've done, my favorites are still Alts and BT's.

And of course, thanks to Napjr, otherwise I wouldn't have known such an amazing knock-off even existed.

Anyway, this started as (and largely remains) one of those new Hummer H3 remolds of Hound. I swapped the red forearms and shins with the black H3 (too be modded soon as well...not into Trailbreaker), painted the thighs and waist silver, and painted the upper arms, abdomen and hands in gunmetal. I also used gunmetal to paint over anything that was the original dark green color. I also removed the spare tire...mostly because it made the left leg look horrible, but also because it was clearly not an H3 tire. An Autobot symbol now mostly covers the leftover hole.

The head was made from Alt Skids head, with an added larger mohawk, chin, rounded side thingies, and thinned cheek guards. The red was harder to match than I thought, with the added metal flake. To get the final color, I dipped my brush is silver, mostly cleaned it, then dipped in clear red. The result was a bright, deep red that had the same metal flake content of the H3's paint.

I kept the weird gun it came with, but modded the handle so Ironhide could actually hold it.

Heh....I think this write up actually took me longer than the whole project!

That looks great man. I've been waiting to see who'd be the first to make this proper from this new KO. It looks like you modded the kibble in the feet area, if so great job it really needed it. I can't really see why both of the new KOs come with green robot parts but oh well

I was thinking of picking up the black one just for Trailbreaker, but this looks pretty damn sweet as Ironhide.... NICE!

Good job here Jarrod. I love what you did with the head....adding all hose little extra's really makes him look tougher (IMO)

I just wished this guy was all plastic....I'd be all over them.

You did a nice job, man :thumb  It's odd that I've been thinking about making mine Ironhide this week as mine is sitting on the table. :)

I'm curious as to how you painted the robot parts (particularly from the chest down) as those legs and knees are in a very tough-to-get-to spot for disassembly. Did you mask the truck parts off? What about rubbing issues? Also, what did you do to resolve the ultra tight joint on the tailgate? Did you modify any of those joints to make them function better? You did an excellent job posting what you did, but I'm curious about your processes :)

If you recheck Napjr's thread, I also posted on how to fix that H3 emblem on the right door

That head looks great, btw :thumb

On his head? They're some random leftover part from a model kit. I think it's part of steering mechanism from a car.

That's funny, its because of the diecast that I decided to order one!

Ugh, tell me about it! Actually, all the gunmetal parts except the arms are handpainted. After a few tries I was able to knock the pin out of the upper knee joint so I could spray the upper legs though. If you disassemble the lower legs, the rear door comes off, and makes that pin more accesible.

As for the tailgate, I popped both sides off (did you know it comes off very easily at the taillight joint), and just carefully and continuously folded each joint until they moved a little smoother. I did have to trim a tiny bit of of plastic on one side. Then I dripped a bit of superglue into the very loose taillight connection joint to tighten that one, and now the tailgate stays flush to the legs.

You know I was gonna flip that H3 logo too, but I was worried about the molded indent and it not fitting properly, I'll check out the other thread again.

At first, I thought this was the Roadbot 1:32 scale H3. Great job, nonetheless.

    Woah! excelent job man!

Im not fully sold on Skids head due to the size... however, the remolding and added details are top notch!

The color scheme is also great... i want something similar to my Ironhide but had a hard time visualizing it (and my crappy photoshop abilities werent helping either :lol )

So, did you knock that knee pin out after disassembly? Even after disassembling the rear of the vehicle, the pin isn't accessable. I thought about just punching the pin through, but I didn't want an ugly mess on the vehicle. The feet I just swapped out with some Rollbars since that hinge is a rub point (and the feet was a 10 job on both of them total; that's an easy fix :) ).

My tailgate joints are much the opposite. Mine is so tight that they can barely move. I already had one break on me due to this tightness. Removing the pin was a pain too. The one pin removal took the longest time! Both my red and black Hummers are like this.

You know I was gonna flip that H3 logo too, but I was worried about the molded indent and it not fitting properly, I'll check out the other thread again.[/QUOTE]

Yeah, just read over what I posted. It's a very easy job to do. 5-10 mins had both of mine fixed :)

The upper knee pin(the one that holds the knee articulation joint, not the transformation joint one), is the one I was referring to, which is totally accesible. The lower joint, I just left together and hand painted. I didn't see any way to get that pin out either.

Gotcha. That one isn't the easiest one to get to, but I can certainly see that it's feasible. The transformation joint is the one I was mostly curious about. Thanks for the clarification :thumb

So you didn't have the same tailgate problems I had?
