Hi, this is my first attempt at customization (and it will be quite a challenge... :rolleyes2  ) I'm using Destructicon Scourge as Onslaught, Energon Bulkhead as Vortex, Classics Astrotrain as Blast-off, Classics Hound as Swindle and Classics Deluxe Megatron as Brawl. For all the combiner kibble I'll try something different: I'll use minicons for the Chest and Crotch plates, hands and head, thus making it a Headmaster.

The only minicon I figured so far is the one for the crotch plate, the shuriken dude from the air attack team. I'm thinking of using the one that turns into a claw from the same team for the head (couldn't find it to make the mock-up pics).

So, watcha think? Any suggestions are welcome!!!

Looks pretty good so far. I worry about Bulkhead being too big tho. I started planning this out a while back pretty much the same as you have here and I found that with some modding, Classics Tankor could be turned into a suitable sized chopper. Good luck and keep us posted!

I recommend using parts from a bootleg G1 Bruticus.
It just isn't Bruticus without those parts.
Especially the head and chest plate.
Now you need to get some articulated hands!

I'd have to agree, Bulkhead is way too out of proportion for this team.
If you are looking for a chopper, why not try doing something with movie incinerator or blazemaster even?
Though I haven't seen full on pics of blazemaster yet to know if it would make sense or not.
Anyways, remember, vortex wasn't a battle chopper really, more of a troop/cargo transport, alot like movie Blackout.
Anyways, this should be pretty good, can't wait!!

Interesting take on the midsection and the use of Bulkhead as the copter...

I will be watching this one...

Great start! I dig the idea of the kibble being made from Minicons. I'm working on something similar. I think Bulkhead will be too big, especially as an arm. Might i suggest Armada Cyclonus? I also like that other suggestion of turning Octane into a helicopter.

Thanks for all the comments, guys! I also thought that Bulkhead would be too big and before getting him, I thought of using Cyclonus, but I didn't like his bot mode. Blazemaster isn't the right kind of bot, aesthetically speaking... But I might consider using Tankor, if I don't manage to make a useful arm out of Bulkhead. Thanks!

Aside from RID Scourge, those are the same molds I had in mind for my Combaticons (I'm using Cyb. Mudflap as Onslaught). For the longest time I was set on having Ene. Bulkhead be Vortex, but I agree with most everyone else, he just looks too large- like he's the same size as the torso-bot, and being a limb, that shouldn't be.

Looks like I'm back to the drawing board. Hope you decide on something that works, whether you work on Bulkhead or go with another mold.

Edit: Oh also, I think you should bring Scourge's arms down to bulk up the Bruticus torso a bit. As is in your picture, he's looking a bit thin.

    Update

Hi, guys! Here's some updates on this project! I gotta admit that Bulkhead wasn't the right choice for me, not because he's big, but because I couldn't figure out a good arm mode for him. So I had to go with Armada Cyclonus instead.

Took me a long while to insert all the NS Joints on then, but they can't really hold the arms up yet...

Also, I've been researching some close up pics of the Combaticons so I could sculpt their heads, and this alone was A REALLY HARD JOB!

I'm still thinking of using mini-cons for the attachments, but couldn't think of good ones to use, so I think I'll have to scrape that idea and go for the traditional add-on limbs.

Anyway, here is the results I got until now (Still waiting for the paints to arrive...). C&C always welcome!

    More pics!

Some more pics! Currently, the connection for Blast-off was broken, so he wasn't attached to Bruticus.

REALLY nice work on those head sculpts... Swindle is especially awesome.

Yeah, like many of us, I've had a Bruticus project rattling around in my head for a while now, and Vortex is just a hard guy to match a figure to. Most TF helicopters are either too small (like the Energon Combiners) or too big (most are Voyagers at least). Armada Cyclonus is not a great figure, and his helicopter mode looks a little... fictional... but I can't think of a better mold for the scale you're working with. Crossovers Helicopter Spider-Man maybe? Also sort of sci-fi looking, and a bit large anyway.

I think I've decided just to scale my Combaticons up a bit, and use the Cybertron EVAC mold (a decent match for Vortex in bot mode).

HOWEVER... with the headsculpts, you're really selling me on this line-up! They look good together, and that Scourge figure holds the center position much better than I thought he would (he feels like he's a bit on the small side, so I normally wouldn't have thought of using him).

    Can't wait to see what's next! :)

Those heads are really putting this over. Certainly worth the work put in.

Thanks for all the comments! Specially about the head sculpts! I'm taking my time into it and I'm glad you guys liked it! I'm no SculptBot, but I'm trying my best!

As for the chest plate and the other add-ons, I was thinking of using mini-cons, but couldn't figure out which I could use, so I think I'll scratchbuild them.
