I got this idea a little over a week ago. As I was flipping through my old comics I came across some issues of Swamp Thing and it brought back memories of how much I loved these stories! I decided that it would be really cool to have a Swamp Thing figure for my collection, so I asked for some advice on the best SwampThing in the DC thread in the Toyark. While the advice that I got was awesome, I didn't really dig the amount of money that I would have to pay to get the figure I wanted so I decided to make him myself! Originally, I was going to use an extra Venom figure as the base and then try my hand at sculpting to get the details I was looking for. When I was clothes shopping with my girlfriend at a local Ross store, I found this Abomination figure from the most recent Hulk movie and all of my plans changed. It was perfect! Here are the materials used to make my Swamp Thing: CrazyGlue Mighty Putty Twistie ties A plastic flower that I found at Michael's craft store Krylon Fusion Hunter Green Satin Krylon Clear Satin Testor's Model Master Zinc Chromate, Insignia Red, Yellow Folk Art Dark Brown, Tan, Apple Orchard Custom mixes of green I also found him a swamp friend in the education toy section of Target! I think that this is my best work so far! It's not often that something turns out better than I had originally planned, and this guy has far exceeded my expectations! For anyone who may be interested to see the progression of this project, I also took some WIP pics and have included them as well! I hope you all dig him! As always, comments and critique are appreciated!
Excellent!!! I actually am doing a Man-Thing using a BAF Pitt as a base! I'll have to keep an eye in your thread so I can toss ideas around. I was thinking of using flocking to simulate a more organic vegetation, watcha think? Although Your Swamp-Thing seems a bit ripped, I think he's the pefect base figure to use!
Thanks, man! Oooh! That's going to be one huuuge Man-Thing! I had thought about using something like flocking as well, but decided to just stick with the paint this time. If I decide to try this character again, I may give it a shot! I really do think it can take the project that much further into the realm of awesome! Thanks for the feedback, man! I really appreciate it!
Oooooo, nice! That is very good. I actually have two more Abomination figures that I need to work on. Nice too see other ones being worked on.
WOW! That is an impressive Swamp Thing. A little bulky, but hey its Swampy to me. I do have a toy from him, but its not impressive..its the old stuff. Anyways he looks awesome, so great job.
Awesome representation of one of my all time favorite comic book characters! Thanks! It was great to see this!
