all done! so this is what i started with: then i modded the tab under his neck to stay open: he looked alittle bigger than i wanted him to so i added a hinge and ball joint behind the lower panels and now we have a skinnier skids without being a partsformer:
yeah i noticed. still doesnt look right however you put them though. if i can get the bottom of the panels to fold in behind the bottom peice on his chest i think itll look pretty good.
i started messing around with the 2 panels tonight. didnt do much but i came up with good spots they can go. im thinking a hinge with a small ball joint connecting the bottom and side panels will work. lets see if i can find something around here that could do it.... oh ignore the 2 joints sticking out. i havent really figured out if i can use them for this or if they'd be better off taken out.
sure. heres a couple shots in vehicle and bot mode. its rough but you cant see it and plus its my first attempt at a ball joint and hinge like this. i used a small ball joint from the back of a hand and then made the screw mount into a socket for it. the hinge is pretty straight forward. ill probably get the other panel done sometime this weekend.
ok i can rotate the panels alittle and lower upper rear parts of them and there is a bigger difference. the front sticks out a bit more but i like it this way better. this makes me wanna do more to everything on him.
Sweet work. i just finished painting my skids and incorporating all these mods, i dont wont to damage the paint. lets see how it goes. i will add pictures soon.
you just make the tab under his neck wider. here, compare this one to yours and youll see where: then all you do is push his head back while your tabbing it in and it locks while its open.
Keep seeing Sideways & I wanna pick him up, but the fact that most of his fig is just hidden parts under a shell kinda bothers me - though it didn't for Fiddler Crab Megatron... Wanted to get Ravage for some time, but I only collect figures that transform, so as much as I wanted him, I couldn't justify it - not while I'm waiting on the IC twins. Have passed on Skids several times (swear that aisle looks like a Christmas tree sometimes with all the green...), but these mods make that mis-matched plastic a lot easier to swallow... damn. And I promised my girl I wasn't gonna grab this one - guess I'll see when I see him up close again. Anyone figure out a way to re-locate MF's bumper onto his chest to replicate the "face" TFWiki mentioned?
you know i tried to figure out how to do that before and the toy is just so badly molded to his real appearance. his chest is supposed to be orange but the whole front of the car is that gunmetal color. im guessing his chest is really made up of the hood or something else on the car cuz its definately not the front. since the hood doesnt do anything but fold over i could probably cut it into a few peices and make them clip onto his chest. it would be a partsformer though. i hate doing it that way but sometimes theres just no explaination for it. even in the movie.
I've wondered if it'd be possible to keep the look, but make the bumper panels fold down to replicate the chest armor, but in the correct color (meaning what makes sense...)
This is how i intend to repaint mudflap for a slightly more accurate model. I will be doing the arm mod too.
