These will be added to my Prime auction that is up right now. The first of the weapons. I thought I would show a time consuming yet well worth it way to light up Primes blades and have them almost movie accurate. I wanted them also to be more efficient than my last set that had the on/off switch in the forearm as well and that was just to much in there. First I put the batteries in the forearm and connected a "female" adapter on the outside of Prime's arm where the blade originally was. Not much cutting inside the arm. Now the hard part was the blades!! I cut the round part off the ends of the blades. I then notched two little spots for the holder that just so happen to be the right size!!!!!! I connected the "male" part of the adapter to the blade honder, ran the wires inside. I then connected two LEDs. I wanted to have one in the middle and one at the base. The using a tiny switch(radio shack!!!) I connected the LEDs and the connector with my cold heat soldering iron. I then did some measuring and cut out a top to cover up the hands and insides using styrene. Also covered up the LEDs running down the blade using a piece of 1/2 round styrne. No now, all I do is rotate the hands 180 degrees, slide on the blades, close the fingers around the insides and bottom(because his blades do come out of his forearms ) and bam, light up blades. And because the lights can't always be on, I airbrushed the blades with a thin layer of orange, faded into yellow faded into white and then for good "cool spots" a little transparent orange to add a little coolness. I also painted the metal parts with gloss black, Alclad chrome and stainless steel and did a nice smoke wash. If I see this used on ebay and not given credit, I will hunt you down.
SHAPOOWW!!! Frigging AWESOME E!!! I'm not only impressed by your awesome kitbashing, I'm absolutely impressed your ColdHeat soldering gun is worth a crap! Mine is a POS! Bernzomatic Butane Soldering iron all the way!! Love the blade mods, might have to knick some of your ideas there, if you doon't mind!
HAHAH.. DUDE.. I have been using the same cold heat and tip for like a year!!!! HAHAH.. You gotta have the right solder stuff though. I use the stuff for computers and skinny wires. Big Hank, you have permission cause I steel.... I mean get inspired by your work too
Thanks bro! I use like 28 guage PCB solder, maybe my ColdHeat is a lemon! I was thinking about jacking it up with some 6 volt camera batteries to see if I get a better solder, but I'm in love with the butane powered rig now. Also when you get into ICs, Clock timers and Processors, you can't use the cold heat. The voltage pulse runs across the chip and shorts them out, just a little head up from your Uncle Big!
Can I ask, did you cast the swords with the LEDs imbedded in them? The second point of light (further up the blade) seems to be coming from inside. If you did, hats off! That's my intention, gotta get some time to experiment! I can't wait for your Forest dio to sell on Ebay, it's gut wrenching looking at your sig everytime!!! Prime is in agony there!
The forrest dio was for a fellow board member!! U actually dremeled out enough space for the leds and wires to fit inside and then use styrene to cover them!!! A also want to thank everyone for the comments. Total Price for these parts is about $25.00....but total time for the first time is about 6 hours!!! I can plan all I want, but until it is in my hands, I do not really see the finished product!
