    Optimal Optimus Help please

    So I picked this guy up for $6 at the local discount store and sure, it’s got it’s up and downs;

    Downs:
    No electronics
    No spring-loaded missiles
    Bad paint job
Cockpit is orange instead of clear

    Ups:
It only cost me 6 bucks
It was new in card (yes, I said card)
It comes with TWO rifles, which are gray, not orange
It only cost me 6 bucks!!!

So I’ve painted him up as close to the original toy as possible. In places where that wasn’t possible I tried to come up with the best look possible. For example it has no spring-loaded missiles, rather, they’re molded onto the gun. I thought about cutting them off but instead decided to paint them, and the cockpit is orange rather than clear, so I painted in some windows. In the future I’d like to pick up an original cannon assembly with lights and spring-loaded missiles, and a clear cockpit. Other than that the only other thing is the most obvious one, the colors on the metallic paint are much lighter than they should be. I understand that this is done by some sort of “vacuum” process? (correct me if I’m wrong here). Does anyone know how this is done? Is it easy to do/learn? I’d like to find out and give it a try but if it doesn’t happen I’m actually pretty happy with the way it turned out all around.

Thanks for the comment but I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "trying to pass it off as a real one".

I was never into Beast Wars, I was in the ARMY when they came out, and have always been a G1 "purist" so I wanted nothing to do with them. I am only now starting to familiarize myself with it, and I'm glad, it's actually a pretty good story. So when I saw this at the store I figured WTH, why not? It provided a fun little project and if it turned out to be crap the kids have been begging for it so I could always let them have it. So $6 seemed like a fair deal. He's missing all electronics and gimmicks but that's nothing that a replacement original cannon wouldnt fix, and the body mold seems pretty good as it even has the Maximal symbol molded into the arms.
And this is for my personal collection, I dont go buying and selling online so I'm not trying to "pass it off as a real one" to anyone, it's just an addition to my own.

This was the last Optimal they had but there were several Transmetals Megatrons in two different paint schemes, and a few RID Megatron/Galvatron as well so I may be taking on a few more "re-paint" projects just for fun.

Hope that clears it up and thanks for your comments!

I don't think cowclone meant anything offensive (although, I can't tell for sure), but I *think* he meant to say that "It looks so good that if not already aware that it was a Knock-Off in the first place, I'd have thought it might've been the original!"

He looks great, and is a great improvement over the original K.O.! He's a very nice stand-in for the original figure.

No offense taken man. I couldnt tell what exactly you meant so I figured I’d clear the air in case someone did think I would try to pass it off to someone else as the real thing.
I didn’t fail to see the “looks good” part of you post though, and I appreciate it.

So can anyone give me any advice on how to do metalic paint? I'd like to get those blue and purple parts darker. Can this be done? How?
    Thanks!

Optimal Optimus is my favorite toy from BW/BM hands down. I mention BM because I've got the Primal Prime, too :)

It's nice to see this guy getting some customs spotlight; great work :thumb
