Hi there everyone, this is my first thread that I'm posting here at TFW2005. This is a work in progress of one of the Transformers customs that I'm working on. I think it's safe to say that I wasn't the only one who hated the Sideways toy when we first saw product shots of it. Some simple repainting did the trick. Used Citadel Paints to work on this custom. Chaos Black, Mithral Silver, and Blood Red were the only paint that I used. At first, I went with straight Mithral Silver for the robot bits since I wanted him to have a "clean" look, but it just wasn't working out for me so... I did something that I shall dub "Reverse Drybrushing". Instead of drybrushing over black, I drybrushed black over the painted areas. Has a similar effect to me, and it doesn't look too bad for one of my first customs. Still need to add some more details on the Audi's grill and paint in the thin, silver lines that appear on APR-tuned Audi R8s. Let me know what you think
Backpack is mistransformed in instructions, the notches actually peg onto the red tabs on his back, not the triangular bits on top. It sucks that there's no reference pics for the lines of the roof, as they are actually in a circuit board pattern. Looks awesome, just wish Hasbro had actually done as much as a tiny attempt to actually make him look like the CGI.
Nice job, I use the reverse drybrushing a lot too. Your bot mode on him looks really good though. Hope to see more of your work soon.
Eh? I think I know what you're talking about, but if that's the case, then I believe that the instructions are correct. The "mod" you're mentioning is just a positioning thing done by Sideways owners that aren't happy with the way his backpack kibble looks. This repositioning doesn't really stay in place very well, so I consider it to be a mistransformation, despite the fact that it makes the figure look better.
This is the best I could find: But I don't think the R8 in the movie was an actual APR. It doesn't sport the red Audi logo and it has only 4 out of 5 lines. As seen here: We'll have to wait for the blu-ray to figure out what is going on on the roof. iDD
or not... However... as it was mentioned before, he was only BASED on the APR Audi R8 - Sideways' roof has straight stripes across his roof & onto the trunk PLUS his roof emblem is silver, not red... Still, great custom - I need to get some paints... Or ReproLabels needs to make some vinyls to replace the paint apps he's missing to save all of us some much needed upset...
Wha- What the... There is no way you could believe that the kibble hanging over his head, flopping around in a slight breeze, is the correct way, when the "mistransformation" locks it down securely and out of the way.
Omigosh, thanks so much for the pics! I'm currently on a sideways WIP as well, and the references you put here are a life saver...
