I'll just go ahead and state right away that I'm sure there are a gazillion of you who're gonna hate this or simply be apathetic. That's okay, I know my shit's weird With that out of the way, this actually came about because I stole Classics Megs head some time ago for alt Ravages body. I was left with a good toy in CL Megs here and I didn't want to waste it. Seeing as this color scheme is so wacky... well I think it works as BW Megs for this reason so..... I chopped the top of the head off for several reasons: 1) it was too big to fit, 2) it looked stupid, 3) I wanted to try my hand at creating a scratch piece seeing as I've never done this before. Aside from the custom piece I also had to trim considerably on the sides and back of the helmet. While I was at it I re sculpted and did some minor work to the front. Lastly and obviously, paint work. Silver/red mix for the eyes, silver teeth and black helmet.
You know, if it was painted in BW Megatron's color scheme I could see this working. This sort has a "What If" quality about it. what if it was Classics Megatron he had stolen the spark from to become this.
That ugly classics Megatron and the crappy beast Wars Megatron do go well together. Two wrongs DO make a right. Very nice.
I really like and appreciate the work you've done here. I can certainly see and understand your motivations for this project, but your disclaimer at the beginning of your posts echos my sentiments to an extent (I wouldn't be so harsh on your work!): I simply don't think this head "fits" the body as is. I'd love to offer you a solution to this, but I really don't have a good one for you. The best I can come up with is to do some things to the Classics Megs body and to the BW Megs head to make them flow a bit more. I really think you could start going to town pulling out some great sculpting details with additional paint apps. I'm not sure if that would solve this problem, but who knows? The bottom line for me is that you seem to really be pleased and happy with this piece, and I'm really glad you decided to share it. Keep up the good work
I agree with whoever it was above me who suggested repainting him into a more beastwars colour scheme. That would be awesome.
That was me..LOl Thanks for the 2nd on this. Superquad7 has a good point that some minor mods to the figure to resemble BW Megs would really set this figure off. I'd say add a little modding to the chest area. I was puzzled a little about the cannon on the arm and the Trex head and how it could be achieved. The I recalled the Super Samurai Cyber squad from back in the day and the Dragon called Phromo. when it combined with the Ultraman type robot the dragon head and center body, formed a cannon simular to Megatrons. http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/toyark/185710-gridman-superhuman-samurai-syber-squad-image-heavy.html If you scroll down the page you'll see what I mean.
See, this is why my stuff usually doesn't go over well. I almost never do direct homages for the simple reason that characters get reinvented constantly in the TF universe. Color doesn't make the bot iMO and this is especially true in BW Megs instance. He's been purple, black and green/bronze, brown and purple / red and orange. For me, there's enough with this added head and the subtle hints in the robot form (wings, purple, green) that makes it. Spraying a bot with the same tired colors he's been wearing for years just doesn't do it for me.... I already have that toy, Hasbro made it. Don't get me wrong, I like crazy homages like some of you pull off but that's not my thing and I don't build my customs to please the masses so your complaints and wishes are valid, just not something I'm worried about. Thanks for the comments though.
