The way I designed the transformation involved these basics - the waist swivels 180, legs together, feet straight out to form the cab. arms disengage from the chest, move behind the back, and lay down across the back. the wheel assembly which was sitting like the floor panel on Alt Grimlock, swivels up to sit around the chest, then the trailer adjusts.
To do that, I had to have the wheel assembly (WA) hinge connected to the spool that connects the pelvis to the inner torso. I slimmed the hinge down from side to side, and took off some height, and put a giant hole in the middle. this was the result:
Then i put a "garage door opening" in the back part of the torso, and this happened:
in order for the WA and the arms to not get in the way of each other, i cut out most of the middle stuff, turning the WA from a panel into what look like American football goalposts with wheels hanging from them.
This allowed for the first attempt at a transformation. I took a mid transform series of pics. After the the arms and WA get into place, the trailer gets on. Still have work to get it attached, I think i will be able to use to previously removed dino head/neck as a stalk for the trailer to attach with. The combiner chest (bulky's chest) pegs right in to the rest of the trailer, which is a function native to when they were bulkhead parts. They also hide the arms.

here's the arm problem -i'm going to epoxy up the hole, then reapply it. Possibly in a better position, smaller hole, longer screw, something like that.
here's the bot free-standing. granted, Grimlock's feet are kinda ornamental, but it makes me happy to see him standing and not falling over, without even having added the feet.
here's a mockup of some of the torso mode. I put a big notch on the underside of the backdoors to allow the combiner chest to peg in. I'll probably find some way to allow it a more stable connection to the WA too. Yep, I'll be using Headmaster as the Menasor head.
as for the trailer - on bulky, the side panels connected to his arms. I couldn't have that, so i wanted to find a way for them to connect to the rest of the trailer.
First i removed the whole missile stuff, and sanded down the pin spots...
Then i found that Ratchet's shoulder kibble was the perfect hinge, after cutting it down to size...
It will go in something like this, and be glued in...
And the end result will be something like this. When the trailer switches to its position in robot mode, the side panels will fold in, and the roof/backdoors will separate. Kinda like what the roof/bd's do on bulkhead, but on him, they actually switch sides, whereas on Motormaster, they won't be.
So the next step is getting the right kind of glue (leaning towards devcon plastic weld), and affixing the Ratchet hinges into the trailer. Then i need to attach the trailer to the body, through a stalk. I'm trying to use the beast head/neck assembly, grinded into shape. No pics of that yet, but i'm working on it. i also need to sand down more parts inside the trailer to make room for the big round shoulders.
