Hi guys, Here is an update. The progress of course is slow down due to individual pieces needing to be pieced together and work commitments. Its turning out better than I expected with the level of details. Dont worry about the bottom of the frontage, a bumper still needs to go on that. The door, and back hatch to access the lights and mirrors are all articulated to bend and swing out. Here is the version 1 bot mode.
Robot mode is so solid. I think you can get away with a detachable "medic bay" to fit on his back. Have you hunted in the toy stores yet? there might be something the same scale you can hack up and cut down the middle which would flap open like prime's trailer...
I hunted around.. all the stores around here (in Aust) have warships, sports cars....etc. The problem with down under stores is the lack of variety and unfortunately, a model kit for an old model van is almost extinct. So, I resorted to the build. The back is still to come and I do intend on doing it so that it does flip open somewhat. Perhaps I can hide a weapon in there... now there's a thought. Satomiblood - thanks, yes, thats why that was version 1. Version 2 will change the frontage. Spoonman - thanks for the encouragement. Hope to work on the other side of the vehicle mode soon and provide update. The back I am thinking of an open boot.
Oh, I wasn't giving you crap about it. The G1 animation model always reminded me of a bot with a TV in its chest even though it was at a slant.
MP Prime is about 1:16 scale, right? I found these if that's the case ERTL METAL STAMPED 1/16 AMBULANCE VAN - eBay (item 290308544604 end time May-07-09 07:14:02 PDT) REVELL MOVIN` OUT 1/16 BIG RIG CHEVY VAN-SEALED 1977 - eBay (item 260388600624 end time Apr-11-09 18:00:16 PDT)
Satimiblood - no worries. Didnt even cross my mind that you were. Just saying I agree with you and thats why V2 was used. Frenzy, thanks man.. Very resourceful. What is the best way to cut through metal..? not conventional tools that I have.. The second looks doable. I may invest in this incase I do another later on for Ironhide.
You can use a dremel and metal cutting wheel on it or if you're really careful and sure of your ability a hacksaw would cut through. The dremel is the best bet as you can just cut an inch at a time to make sure the line is straight.
Yeah, I think this is closer to being accurate. I think the work so far looks really good! I hope you do something about those legs and other details that scream 20th Anniversary Prime. Keep us posted!
Havent revisited this project. Now looking back, its very far from completed. I will restart this one soon. I still have another project to get on with first. Slowly but surely, I will reupdate it once I have progress. Thanks Supersquad for digging this one out ... hehehe I am abit embarrassed by this one actually but the next version should make a big difference.
That's awesome. The bot modes is perfect even in WIP stages. Ratchet was one of my favorite characters and I loved his cartoon look. This is going to rule
