This was going to be a secret BotCon Project but since I'm not going I thought I'd share the build. The plan is to make Alt Bumblebee based on the original concept drawings. Pic borrowed from Remy. The basic concept is to make the bot out of a 1:24 Beetle model and styrene. 100% scratch built except for parts from the model kit, no recycling of other bot parts. Started out building the hips and legs out of styrene. The ball joints were made of tube styrene and plastic beads. The pins are made using piano wire. Here's a few pics of the start. The next step was to make the seats foldable and build some moving parts into the legs. My next step was to make the front axle assembly. I then went on to build the front end of the car developing the transformation scheme. The latest part was to build the upper legs to integrate the seats. Thee seats rotate at an angle so they sit flat in car mode and at an angle in bot mode. I also redid how the axle mounts from the above pictures. The original sliding joint did not lock very well so it had to be refined and made stronger. And always double check the car mode. The legs are not yet attached to the hips. That I'll do after the upper body is done. Just in case I need to make length modifications for car mode. Still left is the entire upper body and a ton of detailing.
Good to see you around Lobo!! I missed seeing you and your work around the boards. And I am very stoked to see that you are still working on this bad boy here!!....as always man, very awesome work sir.
I was wondering when we would see an update. Very awesome so far. Incredible engineering and fabrication. I was going to ask why you wouldn't be going to botcon since it's in So Cal but I see you have moved...
SHWING!! ::bowing:: "we aren't worthy...we aren't worthy...we aren't worthy.. " A MASTERFUL job as always Lobo!!
I actually moved a couple years ago. I should post here more often. I had every intention of going this year but lost my job last Thanksgiving so BotCon went out the window. Just leaves more time for kitbashing. To be honest, I really don't know. I started it last summer but only really work on it when I had the time or desire to. To this point I'd guess that I had about 2 weeks of work into it. Thanks for the compliments guys!
Oh wow! just amazing! I would love to do this with a MINI cooper model kit once I get to that level of scratchbuilding! Seriously. The amount of enginering is fantastic! Hope you finish it this year iDD
