Absolutely! I was planning on doing that, and keeping those neat rocket launchers on Tidal Wave's ears. 
However, I would definitely have to add some new jointing there. Having a full range of motion on the head is essential. As you can see from the pics, he looks awesome with that "looking down on you" tilt to his head... which wouldn't be possible with the Tidal Wave head. | Maybe Neo shifter parts in both cases (For the shoulders/pontoons and neck) I found out that TJ Maxx sells Neo Shifter very cheap for the larger sets $6.99 for one set and there were these double pack sets for $12.99.

hmmmmm... | LOL! Kill the Energon version. I've never been fond of that "partially reconstructed with green candy" look.
I think I've a solution to the arm/pontoon flip problem. We'll see how it works out. For the neck area, I might go for Bionicle joints just because it doesn't have to support any weight, and it'll be nice to have the freedom that a ball joint allows.
Incidentally, if you're buying NeoShifters for the joints, here's a hint. If they have the smaller sets, in particular the one that looks a bit like a spider-legged walker, that set has as many joints as one of the larger, more expensive humanoid figures.

It's amazing the difference just having that little bit of extra jointing can make. Plus the Jetfire legs arent' as SKINNY, so he looks a bit sturdier in general. Do it, man! It's a damn easy mod!
