This is one HUGE WIP that I've been working on since July on and off. Most recently, I've been working on the connectors and smaller mods on some of these--as well as trying to figure out which figures to actually use. Since then, I've come up with this formula (while it's probably not the best, it's what I'd prefer to use and I'm glad they differ from the other WIP Combaticons/Bruticus stuff a bit). Onslaught - Universe Onslaught Blast Off - Classics Astrotrain Vortex - Cybertron Buzzsaw & Energon Barricade (modded into one figure) Brawl - Classics two-pack Megatron (tank) Swindle - Universe Hound ========================================================== Blast Off is a WIP some of you guys have already seen or knew about. I haven't changed much on this one in a while, but I will make a note of the few new things. I removed the engine cones on the rear of the alt mode, added a Neo Shifters connector in place of them, then spaced the engine cones out a bit and glued them on (to help keep the shuttle looking almost like it was before). I also added the G1 Blast Off wing guns/weapons to the underside of the wings--they actually pinned right onto a small piece that is already sticking off the bottom of the wings (it's not a round peg, but it's a small/thin strip that fits right into the peg hole on the weapons). The head is still the same one that I modded back in August--nothing is changed on it. I modded a Universe Prowl head by removing the horns, adding a strip of clear plastic over the eyes (to give it a visor-style look similar to G1) and I build the head up using small pieces of styrene cut and shaped with a hobby knife. The last two shots above are for reference--I used the right forearm for Vortex as the forearm for Blast Off to see how it looked connected with the Neo Shifters connectors. And yes, the forearms are from Primus and the upper legs/waist area will be from Unicron (why mess with a cool formula that honestly looks great on this?--shout out to Ptitvite on that idea!) (oh yeah, there's a Neo Shifters connector under the front of the helicopter once it flips up--this allows the forearm to connect).
he looks great as an individual, but I have to admit I'm not excited that he has a pop-on arm like Devastator. You could use the legs as forearms and avoid having so many parts lying around when not combined.
Thanks, Ptitvite! I enjoy modding those heads to give that G1 appearance--they may not be perfect, but I like 'em. You'll see soon enough, bro--a mock up is in the works. Plowking - thanks man! I actually got he idea to do something along these lines from an old TFMaster Blast Off using this very mold. I loved what he did, so I gave it a shot--creating my own style head was the tricky part. REDLINE - I know exactly what you mean. I tried to do something similar to what you're talking about, but with the size of Onslaught (and the size of this Bruticus in general), it just didn't look right. The arm was too small and while I wasn't too keen on using these snap on forearms, I am literally loving the way this looks when connected to Onslaught. It gives Bruticus the size and mass he needs. As for the extra parts, I'm working on planning out ways to utilize them so that they aren't just "disappearing" or lying there. Still not sure what I'll do, but that's the beauty of a WIP and getting some helpful insight like this--you can still change it up or do something different.
the head does look great. I agree with redline but if you can't you can't. will onslaught have a trailer of some sort? sorry if you already covered this.
This is probably my fave but then again it is the most complete. The head sculpt looks fantastic & if the rest of the combaticons heads end up looking this good it'l be stunning.
