This is one HUGE WIP that I've been working on since July on and off. Most recently, I've been working on the connectors and smaller mods on some of these--as well as trying to figure out which figures to actually use.

Since then, I've come up with this formula (while it's probably not the best, it's what I'd prefer to use and I'm glad they differ from the other WIP Combaticons/Bruticus stuff a bit).

    Onslaught - Universe Onslaught

    Blast Off - Classics Astrotrain

Vortex - Cybertron Buzzsaw & Energon Barricade (modded into one figure)

Brawl - Classics two-pack Megatron (tank)

    Swindle - Universe Hound

    ==========================================================

Vortex is a WIP using Cybertron Buzzsaw & Energon Barricade. I cut off Buzzsaw's arms and legs (and removed some of the underbelly of the copter to flatten it out a bit more). I then took Energon Barricade and started removing the wheels (haven't finished--just wanted to see what it would look like or need later). I removed the truck parts from Barricade (the cab and the back hinged parts, leaving literally, just the body of the figure). I glued them together and I'm planning to mod the feet a bit--don't really like the stumpy-type feet that he has.

I plan to add some G1 Vortex weapons that can be attached and removed on the sides of the helicopter tail (similar to G1) and I plan a head mod using styrene and possibly some ProCreate putty. He may not be perfect, but I wanted a Vortex that people haven't seen or thought of--something original--and something I thought might work. I also plan to take the blades from Armada Cyclonus and mod them with the blades on Buzzsaw to create a 4-blade helicopter (again, similar to G1--just in a more updated style).

Great idea punk. You have already saved that helicopter IMO. The cool thing about this mod is that it could be used for blades too since the front flips up in a very g1 blades manner.

The bot mode looks awesome too (minus the donut braids of course).

I like E Barricade's head as is. But I like faceplate characters better. Great use of the Cyclonus mold. I think I'm interested in this one the most because there were always questions marks regarding how this would be executed in a 4 deluxe/1 voyager format.

p.s. Do you have Cyclonus' minicon? Because that would make the nose on Vortex look more faithful to G1.

    SQ7 - Thanks, man--you and me both. ;)

knyghtmare2021 - Sorry, man--this head is as good as GONE. I've never cared for the giant ear muffs. It does give off that helicopter pilot vibe, but I want a more G1-styled head (that's just my personal preference).

Ptitvite & TerrorconKing - MOST DEFINITELY. lol

JAF - Thanks, bro. I think I saved it also--and I hope to make it look better.

REDLINE - I just wanted something that wasn't a brick and while this works and does look cool, I agree about it literally just having the alt mode on his back. I did a lot of research on this and I didn't want to use Evac or the other repaints of him because his size was just too big for the other bots used in this. I just couldn't stand the arms and legs on that mold, so I decided to try this out and it didn't look too bad. I'm still working on some stuff and hopefully once it's done and painted, I'll like it a bit more. As it stands, it's also my least favorite.

Viagra Prime - Thanks, man. And thanks again for taking the time to answer my questions on TFans and help me out when I started out a year ago. I had always been a lurker who wanted to do things like this, but I just needed a push and some helpful info to get me started. Thanks again, my friend--I appreciate the help and hard work you do.

Satomiblood - Thanks, man. I'm actually using Cybertron Buzzsaw (which is basically Cyclonus with a slightly different front end--it doesn't allow for that minicon to connect). I've considered hacking up my Cyclonus to use for this, along with his mini-con, but I'm considering using styrene to build a more G1-styled front end in alt mode. Who knows--it's still a WIP, so we'll see what I actually decide on. I'm also interested in this and the way it will all connect--I've been plotting and planning for months on this and if the mock ups I've tried are any indication, this will be GREAT when combined. I just need to snap some pics and see what you guys think--hope to do those soon.

Very innovative work,i think having the 4 blades will look great.
Will the copter blades be used as a hand weapon ala G1?

I totally scrapped work on this Vortex and have a major scratchbuild planned for him instead.

As for the other Combaticons, I've actually been working on Onslaught, Swindle, and Blast Off (doing more mods to make them look more G1 (a mix of the 'toon and Japanese Visual Works art). I hope to have something new on these guys soon. Still a WIP though.

    How's yours coming along, Mat?

I've got minimal work done so far on my set of these guys, but that's about it. Haven't touched anything in a while either because of the weather, but that's getting better.

Hound to Swindle, Astrotrain to Blast Off, Dlx Megs to Brawl, and Cyb. Mudflap to Onslaught. I've had the hardest time trying to figure out what I'd do for Vortex.

I was excited to see that Chinook figure in the PCC line, then bummed to find out it's closer to a Scout class figure. All I have in mind otherwise for Vortex is to heavy mod and reshell Uni. Octane. And that's going to be a pain for me. Hah

I saw a military helicopter at Target that might be in roughly the right scale. I may go reshell, but I'm leaning scratchbuild/heavy mods on a stripped bare TFTM Landmine. I need to do some research first to toss some credit to one that I saw using parts from that same mold and some scratch parts or model kit parts. Can't quite remember who did it, but I do remember him sharing it here (and over at our joint, S70).

But yeah, Vortex is a pain. The only other mold I've considered is the Spidey helicopter, which would also need some heavy modding.
