Okay.. forget about my note regarding the nail polish. It loosened up pretty quick. =( Technically, the plastic pin thing inside that holds it together keeps slowly sliding out of place.

Well, still. Aside from some technical difficulties, the top is done. I think I'll work on Scrappers knee connection next.

Yeah, I think adding that 1/4" or 1/2" or so to get his arms centered might not be the best plan. Hopefully, the chest shield might draw some of that broadness down... or I"ll just have to create a new plan for the shoulder joints and get rid of those floppy drive bricks.

I tried cutting down on the broadness... even though it's not a lot, I think it made a difference.

    Was that really necessary?

This is in fact, someone's hard work. Also, he's been kind enough to share his process step-by-step to help those that may be interested. Regardless of what bash it is, this guy has added value to the forums by providing insight to help.

wow, another person complaining about devastators.

better yet, wow, another person having negative comments on someone's work, when they dont have any work of their own posted.

    try making a devastator.

shoulders are looking better man. really good so far for being your first bash.

How's Mighty Putty? I've seen commercials for it with the over-enthusiastic Bill Mays (OxiClean).

Also, what colors do you plan on giving him? I ask because I think I saw one other person here pain there's in the G2 scheme, which came out pretty well from what I saw.

To be honest, this is to be expected now. I mean, it's true. Everyone and their Uncle is doing one ... but that's because Dev holds a special place in most fans hearts. Plus... he's awesome.

My only reason to post my progress is 1) in case it does help someone who wants to make one and doesn't post anything about it [due to the fear of responses like that] and 2) to get good feedback on what to change or to see if anyone has advice I could use.

For me, Dev was the only combiner I had when I was a kid. I don't think I was heavy into TFs by the time the movie came out or the next line of toys G2 and so on.

I'm happy with it so far. I haven't ordered any Aves stuff or used anything else to compare. It's real strong and can take a little drilling if needed. I tried using it in a real small amount to rebuild a screw post on Uni. Prowl but it fell apart when I tried drill into it since it was so small. But I've used it on those two joint mounts with Dev and they seem more than strong enough.

As for colors, I'm sticking with the G1 green - somewhat explained from above. I'm not a G1 die hard or anything but that's "right" according to my head since that's how he was in everything I saw.

your post are totally helping me. i'm buying parts for this, have most of it so far, to be honest, i have only repainted TF and never any kit bashing, so with your step by step progress, i'm going to attempt making a dev if i ever find the time... time... if there were ways to have more then 24 hrs per day...

Time... heh. Note the day this thread started in Nov and realize that I had all of the parts in like January or so. =) It was a combination of not knowing how to handle the joints (which still needed some tweaking) and not having the nerve or time to start.

The hard part is still to come. Making Mixmaster is going to be the biggest hurdle to overcome.

im sorry for saying what i said. it wasnt nessasary. but I think the Devastator customs are over used. it would be nice to see more of abominus or menasor or even bruticus using the same steps like these devastators. and again i am sorry. Oh and I have two customs on here. someone said i had none but I was the first one on TFW to make G1 leader class Optimus from the movie line and got no credit.

Yes, Devastator customs are over-used...but because of the extensive coverage on the methods to bash this fella, alot of newbies like myself are using Devastator to kick start the first major kitbash...hopefully after devastator, we'll be confident enough to take on other projects...on top of that Devastator is at the top of G1 combiners with loads of fans...everyone wants to own a devy!!!

No worries. I think many of us mirror that thought. I didn't grow up with the latter combiners but I'd love to see some more Superion works up in here.

Dev was the first combiner we all experienced with the show. I think that's why he's the first one everyone tackles or wants. But now that everyone sees the possibilities that can be done, I think we'll be seeing plenty of the others soon enough.

I appreciate all the positive comments about my thread. Aside from getting advice on my progress, that's the reason why I'm publishing my efforts. In hope that something I'm doing might help someone who's working on their own or planning on doing one.

I've cleaned up the first post and 'archived' the old text to my website -- it was going to be waaay too big since I'm being very detailed. =) Right now, I'm waiting on a toy cement mixer to show up from eBay. Once I get it and if it's the right size, I'll let you know. I'm waiting to start on the knees until I get a precise size on how Mixmaster is going to turn out, so one leg doesn't end up longer than the other.

awesome, awesome, thanks for the updated pics. i have been studying your tutorial and took apart my primus, it looks like there is a joint that may not be necessary on primus arm and by eliminating the shoulder joint and just keeping the elbow joints may shorten the arm a bit. totally inspired by your tutorial and progress!! THANKS

I actually just picked up my Tonka cement mixer from WalMart a little bit ago.

But yeah, I'm curious as to how many groans there'll be when I start my own Devvy thread.

I was planning that but I figured I'd keep that movement just in case. You can always remove it later, right? =) I took the (somewhat) easier route and just added the male joint to the top.

If you notice, the hands hang right about at the knees. If you do remove that shoulder section, that should bring the hands up to mid-thigh area - which is more proportional from a humanoid standpoint.

Wal-mart, huh? Damn, I checked every where (2 Wal-marts, Target, Dollar Tree, Big Lots) and I couldn't find any good trucks or any at all =(

I ended up grabbing this guy to see if it's the right fit:

They have a die cast one that also looks good - but I wanted to stay away from DC for now...
