    Update** 01/10/09
    I think he's done. Many thanks go out to...well everyone. Thanks Sab for the shading idea, I hope it came close to what you were thinking about. I wasn't brave enough to rip apart the head and throw in the LED's but maybe in the future. Off to try my hand at Menasor.

    Update** 12/30/08
    Thanks go out to F_R for the wheel idea (as well as many more), Ptitvite and well, pretty much everyone who has and will give me advice regarding this guy. I know he's a little rough but that's what we're here for, to make him better. "We can rebuild him!"

    Much like Megacyber, I'm looking to create an updated looking G1 Bruticus and attached are the figures I was thinking of using:
    1) Blast Off = Classics Astrotrain
    2) Vortex = action battlers Blackout
    3) Brawl = Either Classics Galvatron or movie deluxe brawl
    4) Swindle = ??? maybe transformers movie Landmine
    5) Onslaught = Classics Onslaught

    I'll use unicron's hands but that's about it. I need the board's help to get an idea if these transformers will fit together. I'm pretty sure that Onslaught is bigger compared to the rest but I was hoping not too big to blow them away. Let me know what you guys think.
    Thanks.

    I would recommend keeping movie line away from the classic line. they look like 2 totally different types of toys. Galvatron in bot mode is way off for brawl, i would go with a bulkier robot.

    This is my formula:
    1) Blast Off = Armada Jetfire
    2) Vortex = Cyb Evac/Blades
    3) Brawl = Crossever Hulk
    4) Swindle = Alternator Swindle
    5) Onslaught = Classic Onslaught

    I got to agree with F_R, Classics & TFTM line should not meet.

    If it were me I'd try my best to keep it in the Classics/Universe line.

    i'm planning bruticus at the moment also. here's what i'm planning on using. I'm not sure if all of the sizes will work at the moment or not considering i'm awaiting their arrival.

    Blast Off = classics astrotrain
    Vortex = energon stormcloud I'm not sure about vortex yet
    Brawl = g2 small megatron tank
    Swindle = energon strongarm
    Onslaught = large KO legends prime

    Looking forward to updates, to see who you decide to go with.

    LOL!

    I was working on this project too... in fact, I was messing around with the components and possible transformations just before sitting down at the computer! :)

    Here's my line-up:

    BlastOff = Classics Astrotrain

    Big surprise, eh? We don't have a lot of space shuttle options do we? And even if you wanted to re-imagine him as some kind of jet, you'd still be left with the name "Blast Off".

    Vortex = FAB Blackout
    Like you, I'm going this way. The robot mode will need some heavy modding, but I can't get over how nice the chopper mode is for Vortex (even with it's squashed proportions)

    Swindle = Cybertron Defense Hotshot

    Not a jeep, I know, but I figure an all-terrain armoured car is close enough. It makes Swindle a little beefier, and I like the way CD Hotshot is bristling with weapons... seems appropriate for the Combaticons' armourer. Sure Movie Landmine is a better vehicle fit, but he does have that discordant "movie style" to him, and all those nifty ball joints I suspect will make it hard to get a solid leg mode for him.

    Brawl = G2 Hero Megatron

    Or the Bludgeon repaint... maybe harder to find, but this mold is already pretty much a bang-on ringer for Brawl, and has decent articulation for a figure that old. Movie Brawl is too fussy, intricate and small I think.

    Onslaught = ...?
    Okay, here's the weird one... I'm not using Universe Onslaught. It's a great figure, but doesn't quite evoke Onslaught to me. Instead I'm going with a heavily modded Armada Optimus Prime. I know a lot of people will disagree with this choice... but I have a cunning plan.... ;)

    I've done some preliminary mock-ups for the Bruticus mode, and I think it's going to work really well.

    Now I WAS dithering between doing a team of Deluxe Combaticons, and making a larger, heavier duty team. In the end, I decided to go with the deluxe sizes, but for a BIG Bruticus, I was going to use:
    Vortex = Cybertron Evac(I saw a custom recently, and it totally blew me away!)
    Brawl = Oversize KO Reverse Convoy (just like G2 Hero Megs, except bigger
    Swindle = to get a bigger scale swindle, I was pinning my hopes on Marvel Crossovers Captain America (a humvee)
    Onslaught = same as above
    BlastOff = no idea!

    I'm thinkin if'n a d00d swaps the heads, adds some hands and sands down/removes all the fine details on those movie figures, they'd probably work really well.

    Depends. Movie Brawl still feels kind of small, even for a Deluxe.

    Not to mention getting them to combine solidly with all those small poseable parts might be a tough job.

    But surely Onlslaught would then be barely any bigger than any of the limb-bots? I would've thought woth an Ultra body you wouldn't really want to go bigger than Deluxe for the limbs...

    Bring it, sir! I'm looking forward to that. I'm in the process of trying to convert an Armada Prime myself, and I'd be interested to see what you can do with him... ;)

    I think that Armada Jetfire as Blast Off would just be overkill, man...

    And besides, A-Train was just /asking/ to get turned into him. :)

    I really want to get a good look at Animated Swindle, too, see if there can't be anything done to get him to cooperate more aesthetically with the other molds. I'm sure it would just take making him a bit blockier here and there... I hope.

    Yeah, I'd forget Armada Jetfire, unless you fancy swapping him with Onslaught, and making Onslaught a smaller limb-bot.
    After all, Scrapper's proof that you don't have to be the big torso guy to lead the team...

    (edited for stupidity)

    I'm hoping the whole project goes as well as the mock ups are... I've got the parts stuck on with blue tack at the moment, and he looks great. His proportions are quite different than the original figure. I haven't totally decided how to combine him yet, so I'm holding off to see whether I can make the Bruticus head integrated into the design.

    I think the toughest part will be improving the lousy arm articulation on Armada Prime's mold.

    There's an awesome picture of him here but I have my doubts about an easy conversion. TFA Swindle is really cartoony, in both modes. It's not just his round forms, but his "baby monkey" proportions too.

    I agree... Armada Jetfire is really too big, even with those other large figures... unless you shunt him to the core body position.

    However, as to keeping Onslaught in the middle, it could work. I notice that using deluxes as limbs, you end up with a lean, long-limbed combiner... with larger figures on the limbs (assuming you can get a good limb mode out of them), you'll get a thicker, heavier-set result... which may suit Bruticus.

    My Jetfire arm just needs to balance blades on the other arm, which it does. The overall combined formula gives bruticus a heavy big top and small legs. Perfect for a brute type gestalt.

    Yeah, the "big torso / tiny legs" aesthetic suits Bruticus well I think. :)

    But I'm really surprised you found a way to balance the Blades/EVAC mold with Armada Jetfire... one's a smallish Voyager, and the other is almost Leader class. Can't wait to see it!

    I see that a classics deluxe version of hound will be coming out soon enough...I think I will try to use him as my Swindle.

    Now I'm no kitbasher, though I am a big fan of what you all do, however I hope my comment will be addressed.

    Could the upcoming TF animated Swindle be modded to suit this gestalt? I know no one's seen the actual figure beyond pics, but I think the proportions might be reasonable. I'm assuming the animated feel is of concern, sort of like not wanting to mix movie with classics.

    And as for Brawl, what's wrong with the TF classics deluxe megatron? Is he just to small? Thin?

    Maybe it's just me but I'm impartial to the mixing and matching so long as their faces and hands kind of match. The swindle coming out doesn't look too bad but I'm impartial to the Jeep Wrangler look I guess. I ordered all the components except for Swindle...I'll wait for Hound.

    Try Armada Cyclonus for Vortex. You can flip up his cockpit and stick and hand there for gestalt mode.

    I would steer clear of Galvy, very fragile toy! Plus he's a tad too futuristic and not military enough, in my opinion! Landmine is a good option which has been proven a few times. But don't rule out Classics Hound when he hits the streets! I always liked the basic idea behind this and similar Classics Bruticus' ! I can't wait to see ya get started!:thumbs2:
