Hey folks, just wanted to show off phase 1 of my TFA Combaticons: Vortex!! Ever since I saw TFA Swindle I knew I had to go for Bruticus!! Leader Ultra Magnus will make a perfect Onslaught, too!! So I thought I would get a head start on the hard ones while I wait for Swindle and UM to start showing up around here! For Brawl I'll use a Cyber-slammers Brawl and reshell a TFA: Bumblebee, kinda like I'm doin' on my Warpath WIP, but I'll keep the turret on the back! So all that was left was trackin' down the Combaticon air crew!! No 'copters or shuttles to be found in Animated, so I had to dust off the brain cells, and Whew!! Just tryin' to find a workable 'copter vehicle besides Leader Megs was a royal pain! Then it hits me...Megs' Cybertron mode could make a decent helicopter, with TONS of work! I needed deluxe class so he could be proper proportions. So here is a sneaky peek of Vortex, got the nosecone/backpack roughed in. Still tons of work and detailing to do, but I like to share and I'm pretty happy with the way it came together! I modded Megs' cannon to be the turbojet motor and Energon Bulkhead donated his props! I wanted to keep the "blades on the back" look of G1 Vortex, as well as the rounder nose but with the animated feel. The nose and cockpit split in half and fold on the back for bot mode! Now I don't mind scratch building, and I don't mind absurdly difficult joint fabrication, but DANG that was hard to do! The blades can be an arm weapon as well!! I KNOW I KNOW!! He just looks like Megatron with a 'copter mode (Hmmmn...deluxe Earth mode Megs). He will receive many more mods to become Vortex!! Here's what's on the menu: Rear rotors that become knee pads in bot mode. Feet will be modded to look like intake vents in chopper mode. Guns in fists that fold into gun turrets in chopper mode. Complete head rescuplt. Gun turret on nosecone. Detail the front of the turbojet motor. Sculpt body to make it less "Megatron". And Blast Off? Well............................ should be pretty cool when you fix him up a propper tail and tail rotor. I'm certainly intrigued with what you've got so far.
hey looks good man i thought about an animated bruticus also. i agree with u on ur onslaught and swindle. for brawl i wonder if u might could aslo use blitzwing's tank mode. for blastoff i was thinking y not use the voyeger megatron. it already has kind of a spacecraft look and feel. hey hope it helps u out man!
I think Megs was a great choice. This really does look likle a helicopter would in the TFA universe. I can't wait to see him when you're done the additional modding. He will be amazing!

Thanks for the love guys! I may have to move this towards the front of the kitbash line since there seems to still be some interest! Blitzwing would have been a great candidate, but I wasn't thrilled enough with the mold to buy it. Love the character, but I think both altmodes suffer. I can live with one alt mode suffering on a triple changer, but not both. Yeah, looks like it will work well. I'm also using the same Megs mold for BlastOff, with different tranformation and mods of course. The benefit is both arms will be very close in symmetry, and BB and Swindle will be pretty even as legs too. That sounds awesome! Ani Shockwave for Onslaught? You have my full attention!
