This is a little concept mod I came up with when I first got Onslaught, but I only took some pictures today. I just thought it looked sort of cool, in a Super Robot kind of way (as you can probably tell by the name I gave him ). Pretty simple... you just flip him around. The fists can be swapped, though I didn't do it in this picture. I think it would look good if I removed the plastic preventing his shoulder spikes from folding all the way down... it would allow them to be positioned like Samurai shoulder plates. The head is from a KO Sixwing, and is just temporarily stuck on there. The weapon is a Sigma 6 katana stuck on the inner barrel from a ballpoint pen to make sort of a Naginata. Perhaps he could be Bludgeon with a bit of work? Dunno if I'll do this ... maybe with a spare Onslaught. I might wait and see if Hasbro comes out with an interesting repaint of that mold first. zmog
I think it looks cool! Not sure which TF character he could be, but the overall vibe is very Shogun Warriors, or early Gundam/Robotech! I've always liked the Six-build/train/wing/turbo gestalt heads for voyager-ish sized bots!
banzitron or what ever his name is the legs are the only problem but it looks like it will be a cool custom
Yeah, they're awesome... I wish I lived in a city with a good Chinatown, so I could pick up some more of those micromaster combiners cheap. The heads are very cool! Hmm. I guess in the pictures it looks like the wheels stick out on the inside of his legs, but in reality they don't really hamper the legs at all. Unfortunately, Onslaught's legs are designed with a slant... which is kind of cool, since it naturally gives him a nice broad stance, but makes switching them around a bit more awkward. Like I said, I haven't decided to go ahead with this mod, but maybe down th road, if I get a second Onslaught figure cheap, I'll think about it. The robot mode looks different enough that it would be worth making a new character out of it. zmog
Ah, this is a neat idea. Probably because the body has been flipped around for the "armor" to function.
Yeah, MJ's right... the figure is basically just backwards, so his hands are backwards too. I mentioned in my opening post that I didn't bother swapping the fists because I didn't have a mini-screwdriver handy... but Onslaught's fists are easily switched. I've done it before. Almost everything about this mod is super easy... a screwdriver, a knife and five minutes would do it. The head would require some more involved bashing, since it can't attach where Onslaught's head normally goes. I'd probably have to bolt it to the underside of the hatch, so it flips out with it. I'm actually very curious to see how Hasbro repaints this mold... they've already done Powerglide and Silverbolt, so I figure Onslaught's number should come up soon. zmog
Is there a way to mod the waist so it rotates? Then you could turn the legs around to go with your setup! Regardless, you've made me want this figure now! I say go for it!
Thanks for the encouragement... though I've got slightly less than 99 other "concepts" and half-assed projects started like this one. Who knows when I'll get to it. These days I'm much better at the ideas than the follow through. As for modding the waist to rotate, I already looked into it, and it would take some serious cutting and rebuilding. Not an easy mod at all... zmog
Looks very cool, can definitely see where you're going with that one. The head works very well. Shame Hasbro cheaped out on having articulated feet (which for a toy that size & price is a joke, but I digress)... but I imagine fixing that isn't a problem for a radicon
Brilliant. I'm sitting here with 2 Onslaughts from the amazon sale, and I randomly stop at CVS and see micromaster Skydive, and I've been popping the Superion head on various bodies.
Y'know... that's brilliant. It hadn't occurred to me that you can actually just buy the ONE Micromaster that comes with the head, rather than the whole set! Of course, one official Aerialbot probably costs as much as a whole KO Superion... zmog
Y'know, I'll keep an eye out for ya. The Big Lots stores down near me still have a bunch of KOs lyin' around. Mostly the G1 combiners but a couple of them had the Micromaster teams. They were $3 or $5, can't remember. I'm heading by one today I'll have a look!
$6.99 for the one guy, with the head and the hand. It's such a coincidence that you posted that. I literally have two Onslaughts and that very head right next to each other. Actually KBtoys.com had the whole Aerialbot set for a while, for around $25 I thought. I had it in my cart a few times. They still have a solo Skydive if you're interested.
Getting a Skydive almost isn't worth it. You're better off just getting the KO Sixwing set as SMOG pointed out. You get the head and a host of other mini combiner parts.
