Energon Nemesis Prime WIP (70% complete) *UPDATED 6/20/09*

Alrighty, this thread will cover the converting of a second hand, beat up Energon Optimus Prime set (figure, drones, and the trailer) into a custom Energon Nemesis Prime! I originaly wanted the smaller, Pla-Kit Grand Scourge, more or less another evil black Prime repaint, but after discovering how much of a peice of garbage it truly was, I decided to make a better evil Energon Prime from the real deal. The project will be divided up into three phases:

Phase 1: repaint and re-label all drone limbs
Phase 2: Modify and repaint the main figure
Phase 3: Repaint anything else not done in phases 1 or 2.

I will be starting the project when I get the paints and stuff I need, but in the meantime, I welcome comments and constructive critisism.

Update 12/23/08: Trailer dropped from list, deemed not neccessary to finished figure itself at this time. Pictures also added of Half-painted Tornado-2 drone (the helicopter)

Update 1/1/09: Pictures posted of almost finished Tornado-2 as Nemmy's right arm attachment w/ new paint apps, also Flame-1 as the left arm showcasing the newly painted silver fist.

Update 1/31/09: Added pics of half-done Crusher-3 (Drill) with main body color added and a few warning stripes.

Update 4/11/09: Wow! haven't updated in a long while! Well, Nemmy's made a nice amount of progress in the almost three months this thread has been silent. Let's see, Crusher-3 is almost done, just needs the lettering like Tornado-2, the other two drones are still waiting for me to find a good paint for them (Navy Blue for Nautilus-4, still looking for a good color for Flame-1). Tornado-2's blades also got some highlights in it's rotors, top and bottom, as did Nemmy's upper legs and sholders. The Spark crystal thingy on his left sholder got some rim detail, although it will eventually be covered up by an Energon star to hide the autobot symbol. I've also got a new camera since then, and the new pictures are .79 MB larger than the tolerance, so I'll have to post them later when I get them down to size.

Update 6/20/09: Gotten lazy with pictures, need to put some new one up later (got some gloss coats drying currently), but namely the main body looks FAR more evil and awesome than before, 3 of the 4 drones are fully painted (Flame 1 is half-painted currently), and that "Spark of Combination" has been turned into the "Dark Matrix," making that stupid red LED in the middle look much better.

    An update on the project:

First, I am dropping the trailer from the list until further notice as I've decided it's not worth repainting it for the sake of this custom at this time. I do think that it would be cool for my Nemesis Prime to have a custom trailer to match, but I've also realized why this Prime's previous owner never called it anything other than a parking garage on wheels: because that's all it really is, just storage for OP drones 1-4 when not in use.

Next on the update list is that all the drones will retain their original numbers, although this only affects Nautilus-1 and Flame-4 (now Nautilus-4 and Flame-1, respectively). The reason for this change is that I finally discovered the button that makes the noises for the drones right above the switch on the main figure's back, something the previous owner failed to tell me, and so to keep the switch's markings relevant to the drones, the drones must keep their numbers.

Finally, I got some paint to begin this project at last, and even though only one drone is just half-finished, the results are surprising and I will be posting pics later in the day when I get the chance.

    Update #2!

Tornado 2 is almost finished. The windows are painted with flat black enamel, and the silver is on the nose, tail detail, and tail fin arrows. All that's left is to add the "Tornado-2" markings on the front (no screw holes side) and the Unicron Rubsign on the back (screwholes present). Tornado-2, like all the drones, will retain the ability to become hand or foot, but its default position is the right arm slot. I also went and did Flame-1's hand to match Tornado-2's hand at this time. I think Nemmy wanted to show off his posing skils went I took these pics, he likes his new mods. Interestingly, I only noticed when painting Flame-1 that the hand is different from Tornado-2's hand in the molding.

Yeah, the figure by itself just sucks eggs, as he is indeed overly obese, thus why he has earned the nickname "fattimus prime" in the fandom. However, when the drones act as limbs, that's when the toy shines in my eyes. The added mass of the drone-limbs offset the normaly blatant chest, making the most notable fact of the toy almost not noticable at all. The individual drones can become weapons, such as the Drill being a devestating carnage-causer when in arm-mode, or add secondary weapons in addition to becoming hands, such as Tornado-2's rotors becoming an arm-mounted blade. The only bad thing that's most noticable is the fact the head's turning range is severly limited when the helmet is added on, but unlike the show the helmet is not needed for combined form, as evidenced by the pictures above where the helmet is clearly not enabled on the head. The level of detail on the drones is also amazing, especialy the sub, which rivals the Movie line's drone toy details in my opinion.

Well, I haven't been able to work on Nemmy for a good little bit due to real life interfering (it sucks, doesn't it?), but he is 1% further to completion nontheless because his ex-owner has at last tracked town his missing window part of his chest and will be in its propper place by the end of the month. The peice is more important to this Nemesis Prime rather than the original Prime because unlike Prime's super mode, Nemesis does NOT need to have the windows spread apart (I like him better that way anyways). However, he will retain the ability to open his chest, as the "spark of Combonation" thing in his chest currently will be repainted as the Dark/Dead Matrix ( Armada Nemesis Prime had one, so why not in his one-line-over incarnation?)

Update time! This time, I added 5 new pictures showcasing how the drill limb, Crusher-3, has been repainted to look more like a drilling machine at a workzone. It's painted completley with testor's chromate enamel and the few caution stripes I added are in flat black enamel.

and now I need to ask you fine folks a question: should I add more caution stripes or not? I don't want to go overkill on this, but the rest of the thing looks a little bland without them in my opinion. I'd like your opinion, too, however.

Really? I wish I could try that. I don't own a Powermater Prime, and the only one near me for about 100 miles that I know of is my friend's Commemorative series version with Apex Armor, and that figure is still one of his most prized figures, so I'm not going to be able to use the PM head on that figure. In the long run I think it might be better actually to just stick with the 'thinking cap'/radio dish hat, as my Nemmy is supposed to be like Universe Nemesis Prime (Universe 1.0, not the Classics Prime redeco) as a clone of Optimus Prime (the fact OP was in Unicron when the DW Energon comics ended helps my story's plausibility in offical or fan cannon).

Thanks. I wanted a Nemesis Prime, but the Pla-Kit Grand Scourge sucks in colors and design, so I decided to use a Leader Energon Prime, a figure of infamy that few other figures had surpassed. The fact he's mostly complete and only the base figure is throughly damaged externaly only helps me out, as it makes him look even more evil without me needing to carve him up:ev: .

I really got to update this thread, Nemesis is MUCH more closer to completion and I got a better camera, too. I might be able to post pics later today.

Crap, totally frogot to update this thread, wish I'd remembered as Nemesis has come a LONG way. I'll put up new pictures later as he's got a test-coat of gloss sealant on the body. Let's just say that I've made this Prime go the way of Jack Black...in that he's "Back in Black":D
