Optimus Prime Leader Class Custom

yo! just finished doing a repaint of the leader class version of Prime, thought i would throw some pictures up here for people to slag off!

I removed the arms and put them on the right way round, and repainted it using humbrol paints and matt varnished it to resemble the movie prime in better detail. ive added metallic paint/scratching etc i wanted to go for a grittier dirtier look instead of all chromed and nice. Theres no real pro method to speak of, i just took bits off and painted them and then put it back together!

ive tried to keep the feel of the toy intact by not messing with the flames or adding/removing parts, i just followed the movie design and sorted out the most obvious traits.

heres some pics!!

Wow...

I mean, that LOOKS like metal, down to the scratch patterns on the metal way up close. Sorta oily and dirty... like you'd expect a robot made from a hard-working big-rig to look. It's beautiful!

You've got some real talent there.

so which part on the arm did you switch? Is there anything wrong with the arm in the first place?

The elbows are on the wrong way, they should be on with the circular cap facing out not in.

I really wish I could see your custom, but school computers don't process images so I have to wait 20 minutes till I get home.

cheers dudes glad you approve!! i got the metal effect by undercoating with metallic silver and dry brushing pretty hard over the top of it with gloss black!

yeah the arms were put on back to front, with the circular caps facing in, when they should be facing out, it makes no difference to the operation of the figure, not sure how they managed to get that wrong really!

its the wrong thread to mention it but ive already put it in the ebay section of the boards as its up for sale, just wanted to put it here as well so people could have a good look at it, as im really happy with how it turned out!

cheers dudes!!

MOSH!!

I would never have thought about drybrushing wiht gloss sheens...I've only ever used flats. Now I'm converted! Fantastic job--I really like the dirt in the smoke-stack intakes too.
