I have yet to find one of these paint markers in a Phoenix Az-area Walmart. YMMV.

Side note, I've been trying to mix a match out of Testors Model Master acrylics. Grape pearl mixed with white gloss was recommended but doesn't seem very close to me. Any suggestions?

 

yes i did miss the paint discussion and. YES i AM in the U S and like i said the marker i used worked for me thats all gee whiz.

I ordered purple polished, but depending on how it turns out, I may order a FUD g1 helmet just for the crisp details. FUD really is the best way to go, imo, with anything from shapeways, but I've had some awesome pieces with white strong flexible polished as well as others.

 

As someone who is totally ignorant of frosted corn flakes, glossy galvatron helmets etc, it would be appreciated if anyone who has purchased this helmet so far could mention WHAT material/print/type you went with, and what are pros/cons of it?

I'm going to order both helmets next month or so (when $) and would appreciate any feedback on which print/material or whatever you call it to get.
I will most likely pick up a purple paint pen or whatever is cheap and available as I don't want to spend the money on paint/brush right now for one little helmet.

 

I second this request. I've always ordered items printed in WSF Polished, but I'm wondering if with Galvatron's IDW helmet I should go with FUD as it should be, if understand it correctly, a bit less grainy.
However, FUD should also be a bit more brittle, and I'm concerned about Galvy's horns...

 

What brand of paint marker is it?

Elmers, Sharpie, Decor?

 

It just says painters on it

 

Elmer's is the manufacturer but it doesn't say it on the pens. I've seen the same pens at Office Max and Michaels if that helps any. Painters is what's on the label

That's it, just make sure you get the one that says purple, that's the one I used

 

Yep, that's the one. They have other purplish shade too so be careful to just get normal purple

 

Just got my g1 helmet, perfect fit! Not at all loose. First three pics are fresh from the box, final two are after priming. I'll be painting shortly.

 

Primer dried and just laid down my purps. Now to dry. Definitely going to order the FUD version.

 

Also be sure to get the fine tip. The medium tip is huge.

 

well i found a Tamiya purple, that with a little red matched the colour of the painted parts quite well (so it doesnt look too oout of place), ill post a pic once if finished the shoulder mod.

If there are not proper 3P heads made at some point then ill buy another helmet and take the hit for shipping one of the Elmers paint pens to the UK...for the moment it looks good..pics to follow

 

Decided to paint the Megatron head as well, I have to say that this makes Galvatron so much better than out of box. Definitely ordering another one in FUD. Awesome work Ariel!!!

Is there any chance you'll design a total head? I feel this slide-on helmet makes the overall head (please don't take offense) a little clunky, just a tad too large. I know you are somewhat constrained by the interior TM head and that has to dictate a lot of the dimensions of the helmet. Maybe if it had more of a taper, starting out wide at the bottom and tapering to a smaller top could alleviate my perception of it. I know how much work goes into designing, so please accept my compliments on your art.
