'effin knock-off leech companies. Gads, I loathe that crap. I have the kit in hand and have been doing some work on it. The print quality DESTROYS anything from Shapeways I've held. It has some minor striation, but no graininess or softness at all. I also appreciate that there is a slight looseness to some of the pieces to allow for paint application to tighten them up. Quite ingenious. Honestly, the worst part of the kit is popping the pins on the base figure. Man, those arm hinge pieces just DON'T want to disconnect, but it'll be worth it. I plan on modding some pieces slightly and will update this thread when complete. Overall, Omegaonline created an awesome kit and should be proud of such a wonderful piece of art.
Thanks very much for the feedback. I really appreciate it. It's a long journey designing and then running through a bunch of failed prints for each part until the design and build is optimized for strength and cosmetics. Then it's great being able to share the end vision and awesome when someone else sees it too I'm really looking forward to seeing what you do with the kit. Btw, I can totally relate to those arm pins. They're stuck in very tight and the pieces around the arm are an awkward shape for holding and for maneuvering a center punch. The frustrating thing is that each figure has minor differences in tolerance and build (not totally unexpected) and it can make a big difference for getting pins out. The pins on my Asian Exclusive Ultra Magnus came out a lot easier than OP. I think I must have went at Primes pins for about a half hour on each side. So, yeah, if anyone is wondering, this mod is not for the faint hearted. But, it is so worth it once it's done. It was the same on my seeker upgrade kit for the FOC seekers. The first one I did took me ages to install because of the difficulty getting the pins out and then the other two were much faster. Anyway, good luck with the rest of the install. Oh and, I was starting to think I was missing something with Shapeways. I'm sooo glad you share the same view. I respect the shapeways service completely but I don't think you get great parts for TFs without going for the expensive materials. I think standard FDM prints do a better job in most cases. They have their limitations too but overall the FDM parts feel much more substantial.
Hi. I use a Lulzbot Mini and print in ABS material. If you have an enquiry for some prints, just hit me up at [email protected] and we can see if we can work something out.
Sweet, I'll be hitting you up with some bits, that will make the amazing downscale, definatly not stealing designs from MP-13, Mini Masterpiece Soundwave.
Shortly. I have some sanding work to do, plus a few more pins to pop, but I'll definitely post pics soon. Incidentally for all 3D print painters, I highly recommend Mr. Surfacer. It's a brush on 'filler' that works wonders with printed pieces. I have used it on Shapeways guns and now these pieces, and it makes a world of difference.
Of all the awesomeness that went into this kit, I absolutely love the shin pieces. They really add a lot to the overall piece. Time to get back to work...
Does this price still apply? Just got my Classics Ultra Magnus in. He really is one of the best Voyagers around, although he's closer in aesthetic and feel to an oversized deluxe Weijiang KO than he is to a typical Hasbro Voyager (that's neither a compliment nor a complaint, as they're about the same in quality). Is there in fast a discount for the full set? Also did you ever design any guns for him? No specific need. Just curious.
Hi there. Welcome to the classics prime mould club. He's a great figure and I'm sure you'll really like having him in the collection. I can do the set for $30. I will just need to check postage, since I believe you're in Australia right? I actually have 2 different foot options. If you check my Ultra Magnus thread, you can see the two there. I did a different design for UM. I didn't actually create a gun for him. There are too many good ones out there already. Anyway, let me check postage and I will get back to you. Thanks for the interest
Lemmi check... ... ...HANG ON! YOU ALSO DID THAT AND THE WFC SOUNDWAVE! Damn, two potential purchases. One for now, one for later. And yeah, definitely do the Magnus feet instead. They look a little better.
The Magnus feet are good looking, but they aren't much different than the stock feet with an added swivel. Believe me, I considered them as well, but the actual Prime feet are so G1 that they're perfect. I'm not sure if it's a matter of which version of the Prime mold used, but I'm using the original from the Universe line and the arm pins are a NIGHTMARE to pull. Ugh. After a few days of off and on attempts, I FINALLY got the last pin out this morning. It feels like a small victory.
I'm not turning this into a Prime. I'm making a Turbomaster Hyperdrive (he was never released). As for the pins, with a soldering iron I should be fine. And the feet, I like the design on the feet. I primarily want the swivel...here...
Gotcha. Be careful of the soldering iron with the clear plastic. I specifically didn't use one because of it. I used two pin punches and a good pair of pliers. I'm sure a precision tip for a soldering iron would be okay, but I personally don't like risking hard-to-replace parts.
I have a spare Optimus that I picked up really cheap in a parts lot... I think it's time to dress him up a bit. This kit looks awesome!
Honestly, if you don't mind a bit of parts-forming, this kit is stupendous. It has everything, is well made and the design is solid. I personally don't like parts-forming, and am working on modding this kit to my own tastes. It is an excellent base for my plans, and am more than thrilled to own such an awesome fan-made kit.
