Hello peoples. I was experimenting with some ideas about how to change Titans Return Sentinel Prime to better fit my tastes. You might have noticed the color, but that isn't the point of THIS thread. The point of this one is to offer a quick and dirty view of how I made this mold ignore the headmaster gimmick entirely, which I suspect some people will be interested in seeing, and it was a little buried in my WIP thread. So here is Sentinel after my mods to him. Looks fairly normal (ignoring the color). But now his head can retreat into his body and spring up all via the same mechanism that controlled his collar. So how did I do it? Well first I cut the base plate that the head plugs into free from the shell and glued it right onto the collar piece. I had to trim the front and the back to make it able to slide in... but now that I type that out and look at the pictures I'm actually not sure I had to... I definitely did have to cut that opening in the spring box however. The face needs room to slide but the neck box might not have. In the back I did similar. But with the base plate removed nothing was preventing the collar piece from just being pulled out through the top. So I put a pair of tiny screws back there to hold the collar piece into the box. I also had to clear a track for them when the head is depressed. Now, you may have noticed I cut the heel nub off the headmaster. I could have kept it but I'd have to have cut a channel for it into the back. It basically would have gone strait down the back but probably not too deep. I did have to cut a rather small piece off the front of the chest as the head was just a smidge too big to slide in without it. Train mode. With the head still attached. Shuttle mode... With the head. Now one could use the legs of the headmaster to perhaps fake an engine or something, or perhaps break up the look of things back there, but I didn't for this pic and am okay with it as is I think. And if I want I can still remove the head. And plop another head on, though it is a little trickier since that whole assembly now depresses when you put pressure on it. I kinda have to grip the collar to hold it up, but it's not bad. And there you go. A fairly easy little mod that could be done with just an exacto knife but I would recommend a dremel AND an exacto knife. If there are any questions about this mod specifically drop them here. If you are curious about my WIP thread to turn this guy more into a design I like, head HERE. Until next time guys, may all your heads be depressed... wait a minute...
Gosh i love how more and more people are figuring ways to un-headmaster figures of characters who were originally not headmasters...
I rather lile the head master gimmick. But I do see the point of things like this. Creative mod, though your cutting could have been smoother. Still looks good though!
This is going to be extremely useful for Astro Train. I imagine anyone with who bought a third party head for the CHUG version, can now use the original, "Man-E-Faces" version with the Titan Master version and use your mod to hide it in all three modes.
Me too. Blurr is currently being brainstormed about the best attack. Yeah the cutting could have been smoother... I'm trying to get the drop on such mods by doing it so early to Sentinel. Plus, persaonally I'm more interested in Sentinel than Astrotrain.
Guessing you might be thinking of Blitzwing (or is there a CHUG Astrotrain that I'm not aware of that used that gimmick like Thrilling 30 Blitzwing?)
Glad you guys like it. Thanks. So do I. At some point I'm going to be painting him properly so check out the WIP thread if you are interested.
Whoops. Yes. That's right. Still, the same thing clips be done with the upcoming Megatron/Blitzwing figure coming out. Also, TR Astro Train needs a new head. Maybe the (CC? Botcon?) version that came with a repainted Armada Jetfire?
I'll probably attempt doing this for Takara Astrotrain. Very good. Hopefully the Megatron/Blitzwing mold can be modded similarly.
I think you're intuitive work here may be able to be duplicated with the new Megatron. It seems to have the same shoulder pylons you used as the base for the HM gimmick.
Interesting work here. It's funny how everyone is "de-headmastering" the Titan Wars stuff. The gold work is looking good for this guy, too much red/orange IMHO.
