I felt like the Wreckers were criminally underrepresented in the Combiner Wars line, so I decided to do something useful with a soon-to-be superfluous Scattershot figure.

Broadside is tricky, because there are about four or five different looks for him, between the original toy, the cartoon and various comics. I decided to use the G1 figure as the base and then borrow from other versions within the confines of the Scattershot figure I was working with. I'll admit that the "Interstellar Battleship" is a bit of a stretch, but I'm pretty happy with the way the starfighter mode turned out.

The combined mode gave me the chance to essentially make a second Broadside, and the Marvel comic version seemed like a good fit.

Edit: I made a separate thread for these photos the other day, but then I thought I might as well add them here, too. I took a little artistic license by turning a G.I. Joe into a Transformer, but I think Shipwreck is a good fit, especially with the original Broadside's aircraft carrier mode.

Shipwreck wasn't created by the Enigma of Combination. The seashell hanging from Shipwreck's neck is magical, and it allowed his spirit to possess a group of desperate Autobots on the verge of destruction. Shipwreck's assistance helped them not only survive but defeat their enemies.

I modified and painted a Lego anchor to serve as both Shipwreck's "tattoo" and pay homage to the hook and rope weapon that came with the original figure. The Viper figure enhancing his shoulder cannon is not a willing member of the team. He's a defeated drone being used for spare parts.

And of course I couldn't have Shipwreck without Polly, which is a repainted Buzzsaw figure. The same magic that allows Shipwreck to cooperatively inhabit the combined Autobots was used to blast the Spark out of Soundwave's deadly minion, leaving an empty and perfectly functional body for Shipwreck's faithful pet.

I almost didn't do the hat, because I thought it would be too silly. But then I realized that the whole thing was silly, so there was no point stopping with the hat.

That is, without a doubt, the most beautiful thing I've seen on here in ages.

I was thinking about trying to do something with Blitz Wing, but my plan had been to split him into two - a plane version of him and a tank version of him, with their bot modes having identical paint jobs matching his original bot mode and then their alt modes (a Brawl and a Blast Off) modeled after his alt modes...

But this is soooooo much better. Kudos.

Okay, I have to be honest. My first thought was "What."

No, no, let me explain. Really, this custom's awesome.

My reaction was to finding out that brick with wings-I'm talking about the G1 toy-was supposed to be an F/A-18 Super Hornet. I was just baffled that something so ridiculous was actually based off a real fighter jet. I mean, in hindsight, it's fridge brilliance, the Super Hornet is a perfect choice for Broadside, since its folding wings make it the ideal jet to populate an aircraft carrier with because it saves space. Because clearly a triple changer's alt mode should be capable of landing on itself. Yeah, I'm still miffed about that.

Anyway, whoa, that's a friggin awesome Broadside! Not only does my head not hurt looking at it, he actually looks badass. :thumb  The jet mode really does lend itself to Broadside well, since the bridge implies a huge sense of scale, so I can actually imagine an aircraft carrier turning into that. And the carrier mode does kind of work, though I think it would look a bit better if the gestalt chest plates were folded down. That, and if you added something to the front like what FP Assaulter did, the carrier mode would actually be awesome!

Is this guy gonna get some Wrecker buddies to combine with? I know someone made a Rack'n'Ruin from two Powerglides, and there's a conversion kit to turn Rook into Topspin or Twintwist on Shapeways.

Everybody, thanks for the positive feedback.

I like the elements you used for yours. That antenna-less Superion head looks really good on the Cyclonus torso. I actually thought about getting an extra Cyclonus figure for the jet-mode nose to make it look a little less like Scattershot, but I didn't want to spend the money.

I'm probably going to leave him with this crew. I like having my Sky Lynx as Sky Lynx, so I need something to do with this wave of deluxe figures anyway. Plus, I customized some additional elements to make the combined form a distinct character. I just didn't include them here, because I wanted to highlight the Marvel Comics influence.

its a good thing you didn't. the cockpit/nosecone on cyclonus doesn't fit on superion or scattershot's versions....i tried when broadside 1.0 dies and i was trying to fix it.

as for your team, i think it fits quite well.

Well, now I guess I feel insightful, rather than cheap and lazy.

    Thanks.

Very cool. Paint job looks beautiful. I like the two versions, I see why you did it, but funny that the choice you made means the faceplate is switched.

Neat but suprised you didn't use the silverbolt or cyclonus mold rather, and also let's pretend that aircraft carrier never happened XD

Yeah, there wasn't much of a mouth or lower face on the smaller head anyway, so I figured I could get away with it. My main priority was getting a Voyager Broadside that could stand next to Springer and Sandstorm, creating that original G1 triple-changer trio.

The Silverbolt and Cylonus molds would have had their own issues. Ideally I would have used Scattershot's head and tail, Cylonus' nose section (if I could have got it to fit) and Silverbolt's wings (with some other missiles or guns mounted underneath), but that would have at least doubled the price (if not more), depending on where I could find the other figures.

Besides, I didn't actually start with the idea of making a Broadside figure and then decide CW Scattershot would be the best candidate to repaint. I started with a Scattershot figure that I learned Hasbro wouldn't be releasing limbs for individually and then spent several weeks trying to figure out what to do with it. While not perfect, things just sort of clicked when I thought about Broadside, so I pre-ordered Unite Warriors Computron and got to work.

This is really clever, really well done. Like to the extent I could see myself buying another of this mold for this version. Awesome paintwork, great ideas.

YESSS! Finally I know what to do with my spare Scattershot. I'm getting both Hasbro's and Takara's Computrons to incorporate Strafe and Scrounge, and now I can customise the spare torso into this.
