After seeing the trailers for the upcoming Netflix show, the Sideshow collectibles insane statue, and the Ultimate EX Voltron set, the nostalgic hype within my soul made me break out my old MP Voltron set to work on. Aside from spending hours adding extra details, shading effects, and some minor battle wear to make them look more like metal, I also did a number of mods to improve the lion's articulation for better and more realistic lion posing. Black Lion got segments in his rear legs cut out so the lower legs can bend in a good bit further for better lion stances, and some plastic on his back was shaved down so the front legs can spread out just a tiny bit more. Green and red lion's inner heads got some drilling work so they can look left and right just a little more, and I did some cutting and trimming on all of the lion's rear legs to slightly increase articulation at the knee joints. As much as I think the Ultimate EX Voltron looks great, I can't possibly justify the $400 price tag, so I just decided to improve the one I have. Hope you guys like it. I don't think it looks like I put near as many hours into it as I did, but hopefully it is improved.
Like you, I've also been bitten by the Voltron nostalgia bug -- and I'm currently restoring a few broken, secondhand Voltron toys that I recently acquired. I LOVE what you did with yours! Makes me regret selling my Toynami Voltron.
Looking epic. Great way to start the hype for Voltron Legendary Defender which is coming out this weekend.
Voltron That is SUH-WEEEEEET!!! I've always wanted to get my hands on a Voltron (lion set, of course). Yours is "drool worthy". Thanks for sharing.
Thanks guys!! I didn't know if old Voltron would get any love at all, or if what I did even came out looking like much. It was actually a good 8 hours of work but probably just looks like a bit of inkwashing and drybrushing.
