UPDATE Both shallow and deep versions are now available on Shapeways. I recommend getting them in WSF+polished for the optimal combination of cost, detail, and smoothness. Note there are tabs on the stems of the wheels to help in extracting them with pliers, just to minimize chance of breakage -- with WSF, breakage should not be an issue, but I would be concerned about the detail materials. Shallow Version: Ultra Magnus Arm Wheels (Shallow Version) (RGYJULYJV) by process Deep Version: Ultra Magnus Arm Wheels (Deep Version) (XDTTE8FW7) by process In black acrylate, not yet available: --- I was hoping a 3rd party would do something like this first, but here we have what will be a pair of faux wheel attachments to conceal Leader Ultra Magnus's wrists. I think the photos are pretty self-explanatory -- these are simple parts that plug into his gauntlets, improving on the rolled-up sleeve look, and giving him a more IDW appearance. This is just a rough prototype to test for fit and sizing. -edit- This part will fit in alt. mode and won't need to be removed for transformation. Part of the inspiration for doing this now is that Shapeways is testing a new high-resolution black material. I'm designing this part with this material in mind, to minimize the roughness that comes with most 3D printing and to have a product that doesn't need to be painted or finished. If the new material works well well, I would like to design a filler piece to replace Minimus Ambus/Alpha Trion for those who don't subscribe to the IDW/Takara fiction, and ideally I'd work in MP-10 Matrix compatibility.
Points for accuracy, but I don't think I've ever seen someone purposely create faux parts. Still tempting though.
The filler parts are nearly complete. I'll be releasing these in pairs, one for each arm, and in two different versions. The deep version features a rounder wheel, but protrudes from the arms more. The shallow version has the same covering effect, but with a lower profile and less pronounced wheel. Note the samples below are printed in unpolished WSF. I can't say I recommend this material option due to the roughness. Polished WSF is better, but I'm hoping Shapeways will released their high definition acrylate -- it's the closest thing I've seen to injection molded plastic yet! Both versions can remain in place for transformation. Shapeways links below. Deep version Shallow version
When will this be for sale? Is it safe to assume this will work with the 3P upgrade arms? Looks like it would
I'm sure IDW Mags has wheels showing on front AND back of his forearms, are we able to fit two of these to both arms, front and back, or will the fixings get in the way?
Is this compatible with a Magnus that has the x2 kit installed? Love the look, I just want to know before I buy
