I don't think slim jeans will work for my legs...I'm more of a medium. I am looking to try & find silver tights as I expect they have some give.

I'll have another look at my upper arm attachment as it definitely needs to be changed - will look at the bolting method, though I might also add some elastic to that system.

With my second costume I went brave and made a head.

Instead of using a helmet as a base I just started with a cardboard crown then built up from there, the mask is separate which I later attached with elastic.
Mask on, then helmet on.

 

first off that costume is badass!! the 12 year old in me is infinitely jealous, woulda rocked that on halloween.

as far as silver legs go, i'm sure you can find a metallic silver unitard on amazon or something, and cut the top off to make just pants.

a smaller head would be ideal, and i would advocate for craft foam, i have seen some very good results and it's easier to work with than cardboard, nice and bendy. probably not much ventilation though. small computer fan in the crest? 

smoking stacks would be pretty cool too. dry ice would work, but it doesn't steam quite as much as you would probably want it too, you might have to put a little fan in there to get it to come out of the top with any speed. to contain dry ice you just need a plastic bottle. some styrofoam to keep it from freezing your arm would be a good idea though. since your arm moves around make sure the bottle is closed up and glue a tube to the cap and route it right to the top of the stack.

I'll have a look for that as an option...shouldn't be too expensive!

I can't promise that I'll tackle building a new head as I've got a list of other changes that will take time, but we'll see. A new head would give the option of building for improved sightlines, and I already own the battery-powered computer fans you are referring to.

Have you considered crafting some sort of hip-armor to resemble Prime's crotch plates? I think white would work best. Same for whatever pants you end up going with.

 

No; all parts of the toy are represented - adding in more parts wouldn't be canon. The pants are more to blend in my body to the proportional toy parts.

Thanks! Editing the head is a challenge; it is built onto a hardhat. Down side is it is a bit big, up side is it is well ventilated & wears well.

I'd like to find a way to add the thigh detail panels back into the costume, but don't know how without damaging the onesy & having white bands showing around my thighs.

 

You'd need some kind of custom moulded piece that wraps around like an open bangle only for thighs.

 

Indeed. In my prior version I used a pair of elastic loops per thigh, and held each in place with heavy safety pins to my pantlegs; the thigh 'detail panels' then attached to the loops via Velcro.

I suppose I could do away with the bangles/bands entirely and stitch Velcro patches directly onto the bodysuit. I'd just need to confirm my method as the bodysuit is a stretchy material; if not really stretched there while worn, it remains simple. If stretched, I'd have to match the stretch when attaching the Velcro.

(now I just need to upgrade the thigh detail panels so they don't look lacking against the metallic bodysuit material; would likely replace the cardboard originals with EVA foam versions)

Consider some press studs too then you don't have to worry about velcro patches stretching just just need to be accurate with your initial stud placement?
