Yes, I’ve finally finished a custom for the first time in years. Many, many years. I’m even afraid to admit that this simple repaint (with a slight mod: I’ve filled in the empty spaces in the arms) took me years and years to complete. I started it in (I think) 2007 with the intention of a quick repaint and a little experiment: I wanted to see how it would look if I painted the windows clear smoke over silver, since solid silver or black didn’t look right to me. Not a very successful experiment, I’m afraid. But close to the finish (literally, since I only needed to repaint one part red and then put on the cote), my biggest kitbash project started, i.e. my house. I may not have done TF customs in all those years, but I did redo the bedroom, my study, and completely rebuilt the attic dividing one room into two plus a storage level. But finally I’ve finished this. The base mould is RiD (2001) Spychanger R.E.V. A yellow Lamborghini done in the colours of G1 Sideswipe. The legs were already white so that was a bonus. But all the yellow was painted red and the red lower legs were painted black with details. Window idea (clear smoke over silver) does work, but it's a bit spotty. It really needed to be airbrushed: Details on the pelvis are sadly not (really) visible in robotmode thanks to the big chest. And one with the MP (wanted to do one with the G1 version as well, but forgot) Now, let’s see how many years I need for the next
Yeah, the silver didn't work out so well. But on the other hand, I had to reread your post to make sure you actually did paint it red at all. The rest turned out pro. ^^
Thank you. I do think the RiD Side Swipe is interesting as a completely different character. But I wanted to go for a G1 Sideswipe to put next to one of my first repaints, a G1 Ironhide from RiD Ironhide. Thanks for the compliment. You mean the clear smoke over silver? I'm positive when done properly it will result in a very nice window effect. I've done something similar before in blue and green, and those look a lot better. The clear smoke just didn't want to go on smoothly: all blotchy. It really should've been airbrushed, but now I know so the next time I'm faced with solid windows, I'll know how to do it right.
Thank you. No, I didn't mod the head: it's jsut a perfect G1 Sideswipe head on it's own. But the figure was released as Sideswipe during G2. The GoBot Sideswipe. That one was a blue car with (neon) yellow parts in robotmode. Thank you. 2007 or 2009, I'm starting to lean to the latter, since I vaguely recall doing a little bit of kitbashing after the first floor of my house was done. But this may have taken too long a time, but it was worth it for the house kitbash
