I hope I'm not out of line posting here, just looking for some advice. I purchased G2 Superion in the hopes of customizing him into a G1 Seekers based combiner. I am guessing that the limb piece where the deluxes attach to the voyager is unpaintable, so I was looking to dye them. However, I am having trouble getting the torso open on Skydive and Air Raid. Does anyone have any experience with this? Or mind taking a look at your Superions and offering some advice on how to proceed?
there is a pin that is used to connect the cockpit and body. it should be visible after taking the wings off. your gonna need to knock it out.
i can attest to that, i disassembled this exact mold myself, i knocked it out with a dull nail and alittle light hammering
Yeah, these figures are primarily pinned. I've disassembled pretty much every one of the molds, and it's a LOT of pin-punching.
I've never been able to remove pins before, but yesterday I managed to get three removed. I think a proper pin punch will help. Thanks all for the advice. Now my problem becomes removing all the heavy tampographs. Paint isn't sticking over them. Sand them? Alcohol? I left them in Super Clean a couple days and scrubbed with a toothbrush, but to no avail.
i use mr clean magic erasers. they are amazingly good for the job. just don't get store brand.....they fall apart 6 times as fast
I second the Magic Erasers trick. Works wonders. Also, the 91-ish% alcohol is best for paint removal. I use that, then some very fine sandpaper to get rid of the paint outline that sometimes remains.
After (or as an alternative to) the sand paper, you can use finishing pads/strips to get the original slight luster of the plastic back.
I destroyed my skydive by removing the pin... I wanted to customize him into Wildrider, because I was upset that I couldn't get him
I want to add my own question. Is the Fireflight mold's wings attached via pin? i want to invert the wings.
Well then any advice how to remove raid pin? I know how by pushing one end out but it seems impossible with this mold.
Well I scrubbed the wings with a Magic Eraser for half an hour watching TV and it made hardly any difference. Five minutes with some sandpaper and it came right off! Next step is painting. Experimenting with and without primer, and with brushed on vs spray paint.
I wet it warm, yes, and scrubbed as hard as you can scrub with something made of foam for half an hour. The red numbers turned pink, that was the only effect.
thats extremely weird.....maybe they made alterations to the magic eraser recently.....i bought a multipack around december, and it works extremely well....
