Any word on when the new material will be available? I really want this face.

If we get the ability to buy this type of 3d print, I gotta buy your superion parts again.

speaking of this new material in general, it costs 2-3 times more compared to WSF, which is coincidentally the case as well with FUD (more or less). despite claims by shapeways that it's cheaper than FUD, in reality it's not by much. so one has to assume that this material the same as FUD in terms of cost, but better finish and not brittle.

it will be a gamechanger if this new material costs as little to print as WSF, but we are not there yet

much like FUD, this material is best for small one-piece figurine or parts, such as head sculpts like OP did. multi-part pieces will still be very cost-prohibitive; i have yet to see anyone post huge upgrade kits in FUD for this exact reason

It is - I tried to put sprue on the model and the model was rejected by shapeways - saying it won't be compatible with the support structure. I guess that both somewhat true and just "rule of thumb" to prevent designers from cheating.

Cutting is ok, it is quite hard- harder than the normal ABS plastic, but not brittle like FUD.

I agree with the pricing model it is not there yet other than for the one-piece small parts such as head sculpts or small miniatures accessories.

Ya, shapeways seems to have 3d printing on lockdown but you know like I do, as tech becomes readily available, it will become cheaper and shapeways will (finally) get competitors. My friend has a 3d printer, cost him less than 400 usd. A few years ago they were 10 times that much. We printed off a destiny gun ( thorn ). I paid for the filament, cost me 30 bucks. Shapeways wanted over 150. Anyways, the future looks promising. Btw, still watching your work on devy, I picked up a green walmart devy just to have both for your kits.

    Ou, nice!
This material could actually make Shapeways stuff worth it to me.

All very exciting. In time all 3D printers will get really good and really cheap. Remember how laser printers started out? Or Inkjets? OK, that might be before your time, but they were both super expensive and really crappy too at first.

It looks incredible! Can't wait to try it out. I have iterations of most plastic materials shapeways have to offer so I'm looking forward to this.

Wow this looks incredible! Might actually convince me to order something from shapeways. XD

On a unrelated note, does anyone have any pics of the computron head installed with its proper antenna? The look a little to long in the renders... but it might look better in person.

This is what you asking? I think when they cut the part off the support structure they messed up the chin :(

Ah this is great news. Steam, I've been watching your Shapeways store but hesitated to pull the trigger on a purchase solely because of the printing materiel. This has changed my mind.

Hi Def Acryl is definitely very good.. Shapeways finally invested in new equipment..

New-ish.. there are even better printers out there that print even higher resolution.. but it's definitely a big step for them...

they don't allow you to have sprues with High Def Acryl though (to link multiples of the same item together and print them as one unit at a lower per unit cost)

10 years from now we'll all have these printers in our homes.. you'll be able to get one at Walmart for $149.95.

it's a great time for those that like to design and make stuff!

All of that said, your head designs look fantastic, man! love love love that Computron!)

I tried price-checking some of my personal stuff in the new material. It's VERY expensive.
