Took a Cybertron Dark Scorponok and upgraded him with the Botcon 2014 Scorponok neckpiece, both Headrobots Green King upgrade kits as well as the Perfect Effect Aculeusking head. Painted the Scorponok neckpiece and Green King parts semi gloss black, the bottom portion of the Aculeusking head metallic red and clear yellow over the chrome leg pieces: I preferred using the Botcon Scorponok neckpiece over the one that came with the Headrobots kit because it was a bit more stable and compatible with various heads, like this ko of the G1 Black Zarak headmaster. With his scorpion brethren, I'm glad they all have different heads now: Once I was sure we were not going to see a Black Zarak remold of the Botcon Scorponok or Headrobots making a Black King repaint of their upgrade kit I had to fix up this guy right. Just needs his gun and spear. EDIT: Had to add this picture of Black Zarak with the recently released Generations Select Black Roritchi
Thanks! I was hoping the Transformers Collector's club would have made a remold of their Scorponok, but it just wasn't in the cards so I had to make my own. The Headrobots Green King upgrade kits can be bought at bigbadtoystore.com, kit #1 has the claws and neck mount while kit #2 has the chest and leg armor. They're pricey at $44.99 a kit, but I desperately wanted a classics Black Zarak to go along with Botcon Scorponok and Double Punch The new head can also be found at bbts, the Perfect Effect PES-04 Aculeusking set for $26.99. It's too bad that the spear weapon it comes with is too small Yes, I find they take up much less space while displayed than with his old big meaty claws Hope you find your Scorponok!
this looks great. That PE head looks way better with the correct amount of red on it. I would love to do this but headrobots got greedy and decided to release this kit in 2 piece sets for way more than seems reasonable.
Was the claws difficult to do ? I got the black scorponok and that one black zarak head for my boy as we started watching master force recently and he wanted one . Likes it but wants the claws to match . Too bad they never did anymore upgrade kits for this guy . Needed a spear , but another more screen accurate head would have been nice it doesn't look like anyone did those at all . The tower and guns would have been nice too . Anyways , If the claws were easy to do , how did you do it ? And what kind of paint do I need to do it . Something that doesn't come off when playing would be nice , please help this father make his boys day please! Edit : oh wait you do have those leg tower chrome things where did you get that ? I cant find them anywhere
Three thoughts: That looks really good. I didn't even realize the second Green King kit had been released. Now I can't find it in stock anywhere! Do you still have a leftover Headrobots neck piece?
Thanks for the kind words and support! Appreciate you all checking out my custom! Yes, I don't understand why PE didn't color the Black Zarak head correctly, such an easy mistake! Yes the Headrobots kits were pricey, but I still wish they could have made the rest (new robot feet, scorpion mode legs, shoulder guns, rifle and shield)! Swapping in the new claws is not that difficult, just alot of unscrewing screws to take the old claws off. I used Tamiya Acrylic Semi Gloss Black paint on the upgrade pieces. It's pretty durable but maybe not able to withstand heavy play, even with a protective clear coat. The chrome leg pieces are from the Headrobots Green King upgrade kit #2, painted with Tamiya Yellow Clear paint. Like Flamepanther mentioned in the post below it looks like that kit is sold out (seems like bbts was the only online company to even offer it) unfortunately, though you might be able to find on ebay or post a want request in the b/s/t section of this board. Thanks! I'm sorry I traded the leftover Headrobots neck piece. The 1st kit (neck piece and claws) are still sold at bbts for an admittedly pricey $44.99. I think I bought the last 2nd kit they had!
No worries! Thanks for letting me know. Unfortunately I only need the 2nd set. I'll just have to keep an eye out.
If you're looking into the spear, Jaramiller requested that part in my Shapeways thread. Could be helpful if you're not scratchbuilding it:
Thanks Trent! I'm gonna order one, just what I needed. Any plans on his gun and/or shield ? There is a Scorponok Headmaster conversion kit neck piece on Shapeways that you can try, but I don't know how good it is.
