Overall this guy is a damn solid figure but he was let down by a few things IMO. Very weak hands which clawed fingers popped off if you touched them and his knee guards being attached to his thighs making him look very lightweight/skinny under the waist. Today I've tried to correct both of those faults and add a little extra display option: Just one pic for now till the hands fully cure but they are fully articulated and alot more durable than the claws he came with. Knee guards are now attached to the knees and pivot in various angles. They also slide down for transformation and finally I was never gonna put the fusion cannon on his left arm so I gave him a 'bird' perch instead on that connection. Not alot changed but I think it makes him look alot better for it. Gonna get more dynamic shots tomorrow when he's fully cured. EDIT - Added final shot:
great job! what hands did you use? and how did you attached the knee guard to his knees? looks so much better!
Cheers bud. Hands are the Fanstyle Datsun hands modded with ball joints taken from the oversized KO Reflector which are perfectly sized. The knee guards are attached via a custom built styrene part that has a rod that the guards can attach to. They can swivel on that aswell as the in built swivel inside the guard making it dual hinged. I'll get a pic of it tomorrow.
Hey Tigerblade! Any chance of some more pics, especially closeups of the new kneepad assembly? This custom looks amazing! Also, did you do anything about the hip ratchets which force a fairly wide A-stance?
Nice. I have the the hands ready. Which color did you use for the hands, if you don't mind me asking?
Not my opinion is shared with the knee assembly but I love the hands mod. I have two sets that I bought for prowl and smoke and they looked so awful so back in the package lol.
Cheers guys. Feet were modded too but I forgot about this thread. I'll get close ups of the knee mod next week. Purple was Plastikote Plum, didn't do anything with hip ratchets. Here's the fully modded version:
Doh, for a second there I thought Tigerblade had added new pics of the knee mod. I agree with your point though rodimusconvoy- it sort of makes them fit together.
I completely forgot man sorry. End of school year has had me running around like a blue arsed fly. I'll try to make time tomorrow morning I promise
OK update time. Slightly amended the knee pad connection and colour matched his elbows, belt, thighs and fusion cannon to his face colour to closely mimic his on screen counterpart. Also @Soundwave3k......sorry it took so long. I literally rembered again when I saw the thread: Open up the thighs, remove the guard, swap thighs backwards and reattach so they have the hole at the back of the figure. Remove the small pin that keeps the grey plastic inside the guard in place. Cut a small piece of styrene which fits tightly into the small hole on the top of the knee, once you're happy with the stiffness glue it to the bacl of the guard. Voila. You have to remove it for transformation but to get a more accurate robot mode it's worth the trade off.
In the end I took the fingers out of the stock palm and put the Fanstyle Datsun fingers in their place. Ball jointed knuckles needed thickening but it worked a treat.
