ok so like some of us who got classics prowl and didn't like his original head and recently got the upgrade kit for CW Devastator from perfect effect but had no interest in using the prowlestator part, I had the idea of swapping them around. so I looked online to see if anyone else had the same idea but a lot of people said it couldn't be done so I decided to give it a go. now the thing is i'm a noob at modding things without someone else doing it first but this was surprisingly easy. tools used: 1 pair of sidecutters 1 modeller's file a screwdriver with an appropriate sized phillips head a small amount of bondic. parts modded: prowlstator's neck classics prowl's neck mechanism and underside of chest Step 1: examine the figure. and prowlstator part after examining the figure and the PE head I determined like most people they were incompatible but then I realised it could be done, the head on prowl is held on by a rivet and the head on the PE head is a ball joint but if you look closely the balljoint is held on by a screw step 1: firstly remove the black part with the four screws from the underside of classics prowl and take the whole head mechanism out so the figure looks like this. then open up his head (which will be on a rivet) & using whatever method you wish or have the tools for remove the rivet, I used a hammer and screw driver bit (size T3) but a automatic pin punch or the soldering iron method should work too, after that file the black piece where the rivet was down on both sides until it's flat so it looks like this. top view bottom view from the side Step 2: look at the bottom of the Prowlstator part and you will see a black screw. remove this screw and the head and ball joint will come out. for this step it's easier to leave the ball joint in the head but if you have a modellers magnifying glass stand it may be easier. There is a black block on the bottom of the ball joint (which made sure the ball joint didn't turn when you moved his head when it was in the adapter) trim it down at the top of the block (about half way between the ball joint and the bottom of the part) with the side cutters and sand it at a slight angle so it looks like this. next attach the ball joint to the black piece of the neck using the same screw and secure it in place with some bondic but make sure it is angled in a certain way or the head won't fit in alt mode if you don't have bondic some lazer bond or super glue will work too but this may take longer to dry. this is what it should look like once its secured (the glue is dry or the lazer bond or bondic is set using the uv light) remove the screw and using the rivet secure the ball joint in place using a flat surface and some force push down with your thumb on top of the ball joint then if you need to lightly tap with a hammer until the rivet is flush with the bottom of the hinge piece so it looks like this (notice how the ball joint is at an angle to the bottom this is important for the alt mode). side view bottom view then you can put the head back on the ball joint. step 3:Take the black under carriage part of the chest and file it so it looks like this. this is important for the alt mode otherwise the head won't fit. then all you need to do is reassemble the figure. the end result should look like this. side view front view underside view end result all in all this took me about an hour or two of trial and error and test fits but if you follow this guide (depending on what you use to secure the ball joint) this should take between 30 to 60 minutes to do yourself. happy modding.
Huge improvement on this figure. Looks great! The default head has always been pretty lame. I also recommend doing the hood mod to fill out his body, but your mileage may vary. zmog
How these mods have escaped me is beyond me. http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/radicons-customs/208724-universe-prowl-modifications-complete-2.html Thanks SMOG!
That looks great! I thought about putting CW Prowl's head on the Classics body, but this looks even better.
You're welcome! I did it to my Prowl ages ago. Pretty easy, works great, looks awesome. Just cut and glue, and you're done. My only regret is that I cut my fenders at an angle, so they still slightly get in the way of his shoulders, so there's slightly less mobility than there could be. Better to do the straight cut like in that link. I'll no better when I get around to doing Bluestreak and Smokescreen someday. I also sanded down Prowl's "turtleneck" to be almost totally flat, and that also makes a huge difference to the figure. zmog
Great idea. This is what I wanted to do. Why PE didn't give us an adaptor for classics prowl with this set is beyond me.
Looks good, I was thinking of doing something similar except using the Combiner WArs PRowl head on the Classics Body, good to see it can work
