I do appreciate constructive criticism, so no worries. I have been considering keeping his truck mode colors rather bland, with subtle hints of color (such as the energon) to make him appear as a more believable truck disguise. I have considered the pink windshields however, despite my distaste for his vintage colors. I was really trying to avoid making him look like he drove out of Miami, circa 1989. As for the Red, white, and blue-- what can I say, I love those colors. I do think perhaps a more muted blue would have been better, but I worked with what I have at the moment. I may go back and adjust that once I get the Renderform head.
Glad you painted the legs, I was tossing up doing the same but wasn't sure how it would look. Turns out it looks great. Sold! JL
This is so timely! I too am waiting on the Renderform head, plus have the Reprolabel set. I'm holding off on pics until I get the head on and paint finished. Fun project! Keep it up.
So after a lot of toying around, I decided to go ahead and use the pink windshield stickers from the Reprolabels set. And y'know, I kinda like it after all However, it was sorely lacking blue to match up with the bot mode. So I took the racing stripes from the RL set and cut off the teal green portion. I think it worked rather well. Any further suggestions? After this, I'll work on Combined mode as I eagerly await my Renderform head.
It looks a lot better, it really helps him stand out as the blue Hasbro applied may as well been grey for all it stood out.
I just had an idea I could use help with. G1 Thunderclash was a Turbomaster, which involved massive jet engines on his trailer. I would love to find some fodder engines that would work as arm cannons in bot mode (like Megatron) and massive shoulder cannons in Combined mode (I plan on making Combined mode "Hyperdrive"). Anybody have any suggestions for what I could use for the turbines?
oh, FINALLY someone takes of the nostalgia goggles and does a euro G1/G2 homage in not-eye-burning colors! Personally, I think the red could be slightly darker, but I really like how this looks!
Well, with the head installed, Bot mode is basically finished unless I decide to install cannons on his arms/shoulders down the road.
Damn. I've ordered a Renderform head too and this makes me want to give the legs a spray too. Just the lower ones; most is okay.
That is sharp. Excellent job, perfect homage without directly copying the original. Captures the feel, but in a better looking package!
Sweet custom. It's given me some inspiration to make my own. Just have to wait for the PE kit to drop so I can paint the thing based on that.
Just realized I never updated this guy. I got the Beelzeboss upgrade kit and now he's leader class! I decided against the chest plate add-ons, but everything else works well.
