Here's my take on the big guy. Meant to post it ages ago but totally forgot so better late than never! I'm gunning for a Sunbow look more than anything but I soon found out that he is probably the most inconsistently coloured/drawn character ever with very little in the way of image references! Given him a new torso that's alot more solid and stable, given the individual members (and Predaking himself) new hands and a colour scheme to match the screen versions. I need another Divebomb to fully realise what I have planned to totally finish off though. Razorclaw is the least touched of the group and he can still form 100% of the torso like stock. (the angle of this shot is a touch misleading. Tyrant doesn't even reach his crotch plate when stood side by side) I'll update with a full winged shot of Divebomb later and then in due course with Divebomb v2. I've also just realised I never finished modding the adjustable lion mane! I'll add that to the 'to do' list! Hope y'all like Edited - now on v2 titan scale
This is honestly the first KO I've ever considered getting, and your mods don't help my fence-sitting. Questions: -Why did you change the torso, and is the figure unstable without the change? -What hands did you use for the gestalt as well as for the team members? -Is the yellow bot necessary, or can the original team be used?
Cheers bud I changed it to give him extra height and bulk and to make it cartoon accurate in colour. One of the Predacons inconsistencies is that Razorclaw has black lower legs with yellow thighs but Predaking has all red. This way he's accurate in both modes. He is more stable as the thighs and knees have very strong ratchets but I never had a problem using Razorclaw alone. Honestly the stock figures need very little in the way of modding really, I'm just a Sunbow whore Hand wise I carved out the main part of the KO hand and filled it with Armada Unicron hands. Then I epoxied Unicron's thumb onto the the KO's ball joint. Ready made claws For the individuals I used KFC's MP12 Lambor hands along with Belformers mushroom wrist peg swivel he made for the oversized Aerialbots which was modded and epoxed in place of the removed stock hands. I need to pick up some red ones to put on Rampage and Headstrong ideally. Yellow dude is entirely optional, I just have him on at the moment as, colour wise at least, he's more accurate as a cartoon Predaking left arm. I will be customising Divebomb to take his place eventually. Fwiw there is supposed to be an upgrade kit coming with better hands for both Predaking and the individuals as well as smaller heads for both Tantrum and Headstrong. I believe there is a new lion head too with adjustable mane.
That is awesome! On a side note: What do you think of the quality of this KO compared to something from Has/Tak? I am considering getting one of these but I am mainly afraid of it breaking. I don't want to spend $150 on something that is going to break if I play with it. I understand the irony of this statement considering Has/Tak QC issues. But most of those I accept that I may have to mod/repair them. However, my experience with KOs is that they often break beyond repair since the plastic itself breaks and cracks much easier than most Has/Tak stuff.
Cheers guys, much appreciated Depends on who you talk to. Some ppl have dodgy ratcheting ports on Talon or animal heads splitting on Fortis/Bovis. Mine has been spot on besides a miss fired pin into one of Fortis's front legs meaning he couldn't form leg mode properly out of the box. Besides the fact none of them don't have wrist swivel as stock (individually), Fortis/Bovis having heads too big (being rectified) and Leo not having toe swivel or mane articulation (yet) the rest is remarkably similar to the originals. In my experience the set is better than UW Devastator in feel. This isn't your usual brittle/shitty KO affair. On that note here's some full shots of Divebomb showing off how articulated he is: I love that these make the carbots look miniscule! Here is an older pic I took before I got started modding them with XTB Scourge: The scale is utter perfection.
Armada Unicron bud. Has ready made claws Edit - unless you mean the individuals? In that case they have KFC Lambor hands. Gonna try Razorclaw with their MP10 variants.
Love the use of the toon accurate color scheme. I didn't realize how much more provocative it was till I saw this.
Damn it! I talked myself out of OS Feral Rex- and then I come here and see this! Now I want one so badly! Great work.
I really dig the lithe yet still powerful-looking proportions on the torso + legs. One thing though - the arms now look kinda stumpy. IMO it would have been ideal to get in a bit more elbow into the arms, just like how the legs have been extended with the new thighs. Though I realise that would be hard to do given the fact that the gestalt elbows are essentially the individual bots' waists. Oh well :/ Pics of big Divebomb menacing Sunstreaker are cool. Wish MMC had made each Predacon this size from the start.
It flows better than the toy look IMO. Way too much black on that one for my liking, especially for a team that is brightly coloured in general. Problem is each scene is different coloured for not only each member but for Predaking himself so I just went with what I liked best. Cheers bud. Even as stock he's mightily impressive. He can quite easily stand next to CW Devy and work no problems. Just seems a bit hit and miss on the qc side. You might not have to do anything but if you are prepared to fix a few things if needed it's a worthwhile punt. It's a definite WOW moment when you pull them from the box too, they are huge! Cheers man. Yeah there's not much that can be done with the arms regards lengthening. There is a Shapeways add on for the regular sized arms that acts as cuff extenders. Obviously they'd look silly on these guys and they'd be quite pricey when blown up to the correct size. For me it's not worth it, he's within the confines of decent proportions and I'm not a fan of the gorilla look 99% of combiners have. Totally agree that they should have been this size as stock. Even in a CHUG display they'd work as they've been portrayed as massive in different lines. Cheers bud
Honestly, outside of a few stress marks on the tiniest of parts, the quality is very nice. A few people have had random odd things… 2 right feet, or a part installed backwards… but that wasn't the case for me. I always wanted Rex, but would never pony up that kind of money. But THIS… This I couldn't be happier with. It's huge. My crown jewel. And the price I paid… I feel like I won the lottery. My opinion? DO IT!
